How the heck to program my Genie garage door?

I'm stumped. New house, new Genie ReliaG-850 garage door opener.

I've gotten as far as changing my remote to Intellicode 1, confirming it's software wasn't 2.03, and doing a rain dance. It just mocks me now.

Are you trying to get HomeLink to work with your opener? I just had a new LiftMaster installed and went through this to get everything working (hope it helps):

    - Key in accessory position; Depressed HomeLink buttons 1 and 3, waited for led to stop flashing (think it took 15-20 seconds)

    - Pressed HomeLink button 1 (led began flashing quickly)

    - Took my LiftMaster garage door opener remote and pointed it at the front grille (toward HomeLink sensor), and depressed garage door opener remote button until parking lights flashed a few times

    - After pushing HomeLink button 1, the garage door opened

    - I assumed my new LiftMaster uses rolling codes, so I hit the "learn" button on the garage door opener itself, then pressed HomeLink button 1

    Hope that helps.

It's a little different - the MMI has a section for programming, then you walk to the front of the car and depress the opener until the car blinks 3 times.

I found a post in the Bimmer forums that might work.... it's very "workaround" and awfully complicated

It does suck. I tried for 3 days. It's a two step process. Do the programing for the grill to get the lights to blink then do the opener itself second. I swear I did it correctly 15 times and finally it worked. Once you get the grill thing going you should only have to do that once. Programming the actual opener didn't work so well for me. I'll sit in the driveway and have to hit the opener sometimes 4 or 5 times before the door goes up.

Ive had to hold down the genie remote control button for about 30 full seconds until the car recognized (blinked 3x) the genie signal. The owners manual says i may have to hold genie remote control buttonfor as much as 30 seconds until car recognizes signal. Had to hold down the remote button and move it horizontally away and toward the audi symbolbon the front of the car (owners manual i think says to hold control 6 inches away but i had to move it toward and away until the car found the signal). Took quite some time to figure it out and a lot of frustration.

That part goes easy. maybe 10 seconds and car blinks 3 times. but to get it to communicate with the opener is proving to be a bitch

I agree that part was pretty simple for me too. I have a genie and like I said it took me a fair amount of tries for the second half. I sat there and read the instructions everytime I did it and it finally worked. Keep trying man, maybe call it a day and try again tomorrow like I did. Maybe clear everything and start from scratch again.

Are you in the garage close to the opener itself? Try using the directions from the opener itself.

I'm parked just outside the garage - still full of boxes from moving. That was a thought today: need to be closer to program.

But yeah, I threw in the towel. It's going to be a few weeks before we can even use the garage.
