Passenger side mirror auto tilt on reverse

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi folks,

I feel stupid for asking this, but a search doesn't really turn up any solid instructions, so I figured I'd ask the following questions. By the way, I am not the first owner of my car, and I don't have a manual to refer to.

    1) I've noticed that sometimes when I want to reverse into a spot, if I lower the passenger side mirror manually, when I set the knob back to the middle, the mirror moves again...it's random and I still haven't figured out how to program it for auto tilt. How do I set it so that every time I reverse, the mirror tilts automatically? I've tried multiple combinations and I still can't get it to do it. I have a prestige car with memory seats, so I know I have this option.

    2) I noticed that I can press down on the mirror selector knob...what does this do? I see a "heated mirror" sign right where the knob points when centered, so I assumed pressing down on it triggers the heated mirror feature?

    Thanks!!

Can't get it to work...I'm following the steps above on the manual.

I put the car in reverse (clutch in), twist the mirror knob to the right (passenger), lower the mirror to where I want it to be, leave the knob on the passenger side setting. Then I reverse a few feet to let the car register. When I take it out of gear and pop it into first, I expect the mirror to tilt back up after exceed 9mph, but it stays tilted down. What am I doing wrong?

first, go in park, and adjust the mirror the way u want while driving

then, pull it in reverse, and adjust it to the way u want it

    throw it back in park

turn the knob to the middle to see if it automatically goes back to the driving position

if it does, then u sucessfully set the mirror tilt. turn it back to the right position

I don't have "park"...6mt here...but I'll try these steps using neutral (out of gear) and reverse. I have a feeling I may already have tried this combination of steps but I'll do it again. Thanks!

Also I don't really remember but I want to say that my mirror doesn't begin to tilt down until I engage the clutch so you may have to do that a bit before the car thinks its in reverse.

Are the people who have issues actually leaving their mirror selection on the passenger mirror? That was my mistake when I first programmed my backup mirror position. I was flipping the mirror selector back to neutral, and my backup mirror wasn't functioning. It HAS to stay in the passenger mirror position.

Do you have the smart key memory positions enabled or disabled, Peregrine? I do not have memory settings tied to my key fob, because if my wife ever does drive my car I'm always in the car with her using my own keys anyway, and I don't want her to inadvertently program he seat position to my remote.

Can you elaborate on this please? How do you enable/disable this? It may be my problem.

It's a setting within the MMI. I forget exactly which sub-menu it's in, but it's somewhere within Car Systems menus. There's a feature that allows you to enable or disable whether or not your memory seating features recognize the specific key fob you're using.

Just make sure you're following the exact steps from Audi's tutorial, too.

Nailed it! I just got it working!

So, turn on the car, parking break off, foot on break pedal, clutch in, and in reverse: turn the mirror knob to passenger side and tilt it down to taste. When done, put the car back in neutral, and switch the mirror selector button to center (at this point the mirror should go back to original position). Lastly, turn the knob back to passenger side and leave it there. Next time you go on reverse, when you let off the brake pedal and the car is about to move the mirror will tilt automatically. It will stay tilted until you: 1) shut the car off, at which point it will return to original position, or 2) start driving forward and exceed 9mph.

As a side note, I found the MMI setting for tying the seating position to the smart key. In my case it was off, but selecting on/off does not make a difference for the mirror auto tilt feature.

    Thanks everyone!

Thanks for the heads up on that. I was uncertain if it played a role in the setting. I just knew for sure that I had that feature turned off, since my wife only ever drives my car with me in it and my keys present.

Haha I just realized they are! I suppose the different verbiage I used and the auto versus manual made them seem different in my head...but you're correct, pretty much the same thing! Thanks for your help! :)

If you have memory seats, you have the curb mirror feature.

This was actually the first feature I enabled when I bought my car. Needless to say, I put hundreds of hours into research before I made my purchase, because I tend to keep my cars for extended periods of time. Even with how many times I watched the tutorial on how to set it up, it still took me several tries to figure it all out. Now, if only the mirrors flipped up entirely when you park like many other luxury cars do.

With all of my previous cars I've had to attach those secondary mirrors to be able to see curbs for parking.

My coworker laughs at me all the time since his S3 has the flip up side mirrors when he parks but my RS5 doesn't.

Just wanted to say thanks to the OP for starting this thread - I had no idea I even had this feature, but I've now gone and enabled it. Also huge thanks to all those who were kind enough to detail all the steps to enable this feature!

They are over rated, I've deselected that function as it serves no purpose. Why do you need your car 4" narrower?

Mine do I'd gladly trade it for the upgraded MMI or sport differential though.

I told a friend of mine about it and he said "big deal...my sister's Hyundai does that too". Doh!

In my case, I've got a narrow garage. I manually fold in the mirrors on my wife's 3000GT when it's park inside and I know I'm going to be working down there. It's a nice convenience to not have to do it on my S5.
