    R8 V8 vs RS5

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just a general question: WOULD YOU TRADE YOUR RS5 FOR A V8 R8?

    2013 RS5 for a 2012 R8 V8.

Of course you would have to put cash on top of the RS5 but would guys/gals in this forum do it?

I'd do it. Though the F-type r awd would be a nice option as well

I'd say it would depend on how you use your car. My RS5 is my daily driver granted I average 400 mi a month. I would prefer a RS5 over R8 for daily as it is just more functional.

If it's a weekend/ occasional track car I would go for the R8.

If it's a unique thing I have seen a lot more R8s then RS5s in my area.

I'm probably the odd man out here, but, I wouldn't. The RS5 is a bit more exclusive to me the the V8 R8. I would, however, upgrade to a V10 R8 from my RS5.

No if you need a Daily, R8 is behind on tech, A5 seats, less HP etc.... but if if you want supercar looks go for it. It's a win/win imo

    Unless V10 :P

I drove an R8 a few weeks ago and my Audi dealer GM asked me what I thought. He was surprised and also happy to hear that I bought the right car for me, the RS5. Drive the R8 for more than just 5 minutes and then decide if you would be okay with it being your daily driver. If you are getting a new R8 I would wait until the 2016s are available although you can probably get a very good deal on the 2015 model. My dealer has had 3 sitting on his lot for months.

But then almost if not more, 1000lbs less in weight. Perfect balance. If its not your only car, then its a damn good a car with no comparison.

Not a chance. You're talking about a car with a decade old technology, the same technology and interior as my old TT...which was the main reason why I traded up for the RS in the first place. I wouldn't even trade it straight up, let alone with cash on top.

If V10 then maybe, if V8 then no. My friend owned an R8 and couldn't drive anywhere without drawing attention. I like the fact the RS is a special car but nobody would know that unless they knew what they were looking at. It doesn't stand out, and yet it does at the same time. Not the same in an R8. Don't get me wrong, I would love to own one for pure performance. A V10 or Supercharged V8 would be amazing. But for all around, the RS5 does that for me.

    I think the R8 V8 weighs about ~3,600lb and the RS5 ~4,000.

No, not for a V8 and not for a current gen V10, either. For a 2016 V10 or V10 Plus, maybe, but I would greatly miss the GT aspect of the RS5.

I'd wait (if necessary) and get a V10 R8, ideally. The V8 would be a hard choice when compared to the RS5.

BUT, if you won't mind the additional attention, don't need rear seats, and most importantly- want to take advantage of the R8's 6MT availability, I think a V8 R8 is a definite upgrade overall.

I don't particularly love either because of the v8. I do respect that the RS is more rare, and in that regard should be the better investment. Numbers seem to say so as well. The v10 well yes please.

If I was in your shoes I would say Id be hard pressed to make a decision. The R8 is a head turner, the RS is more capable. But the fact you gotta put money on the glass too. NOPE. Keep the RS

RS5 a better "investment?" Nope, it depreciates just like any other. $15k in year one and 5-10k/yr thereafter.

Nothing to do with seats. Ask Tyler. He got $5k less for his than I did. Same model year. Marginally different mileage.

If you think seats or options make a difference in value, you have a lot to learn.

I never called either of them wise. If that were the case we would be talking air cooled p-cars. I do suspect, maybe optimistically with the 16 R coming, and the terminal end for RS in the B9 it may hold a couple of extra coins soon. However time will tell that tale.

No car is an investment, but at the price point of RS/R owners, theres a bit to be considered.

I went to go test drive one today and I must say it was cool driving an R8. It's very flashy and it gets attention which I like being a 21 year old. I love my RS5 (even though I only had it for 6 months) but my big concern was that it was a V8 and not a V10. I daily drive my RS5 and I am very comfortable with the drive select. The R8 did feel like my 3.2L MK2 TT.

I bought my RS5 at 56.5K with 29K miles and only options missing were the Black optic and adaptive cruise. (I have Ceramics Brakes)

Dealer said trade in was around 48.5K
    R8 priced at 99.9K

Look at the classifieds on R8talk.com. Single owner '08-'10 V8 R8's with low miles are selling in the mid $80k's right now

@ 21 YO and you can afford this...... get it! When I was 21 I had my 240SX and I loved it and now at double your age and I can finally have my 'Eleanor', took a bit longer but I can still enjoy it.

100 grand can get you in a pretty nice 2014 C4S... Actually, I have been looking at 2013's in the mid to high 80's.... Not as exotic looking as an R8 but if you're honest, it is the better car when compared to a used v8 R8 with the R-Tronic...
