    Service position?

Does anyone have a write up or information on putting the B8.5 into service position? I believe this entails removing the bumper, covers, and dropping the front motor mounts so the engine can come down a few inches. I am attempting to replace an oil pressure sensor myself. I *believe* it is on the front side of the block by all the pulleys, to the right. It is not visible. The stealership quote $130.00 in labor which makes me think next to nothing has to come off - but given I can't see it and have never seen the full face of the motor, I think it may be easier to go from the bottom.

    Thanks!

Look up the ECS pulley install video on YouTube. It will show you exactly how to put it in the service position.

Its probably easier than you think. If they only quoted you 130 to replace it. Why don't you just have them do it. ?? Sounds like a no brainer to me. You probably just need to remove all the shields under the engine and you can probably see it from there.

I agree, it is probably easier to get to it than I think - however right now I cannot see it, and the SA didn't really want to share much information. I wanted to make sure I knew how to get more access to the front of the car before I start taking covers off and end up where I was before. If I knew exactly where it was, it is possible I could get to it without looking at it, because it is not far into the bay.

130 is not bad in labor. Anyway.. Go to ECS website they have a video up. Buy some m10 bolts from Home Depot.

$130 bucks aint bad for what you described if thats accurate?

my dealership just put me in the "service position" for a new thermostat $1000 bucks out the door and i had to fight tooth and nail to get that price, my butt still hurts!

If labor is only 130 I doubt they are putting it into service position. Guessing your SA is blowing smoke.

Excuse a stupid question, but if the dealer puts the car in the "service" position, don't you then have to replace the parts at the dealership? Since it sounds like you can't drive it around like that.

YOu dont do anything with the motor mounts to put car in service position. You dont lower the motor at all, it is just the front end.

He's not asking the dealership to put him into service position. He's asking if anyone knows how to do it so that he can replace the part himself.

Yup, he was saying that the dealer wanted to charge $130 to replace the sensor.

No such thing as a stupid question.

^^ Correct - there is no such thing as a stupid question.

The dealership quoted $130.00 for the sensor - but I'd rather play with my car myself. I thought about having them do it and then trying to fight AoA to be reimbursed for the charge as my car is TD1 but still under the warranty period. BUT - I didn't want to go back and forth to the dealer for it, and if it didn't fix the issue than I would be SOL and rack up a pointless bill with them - they would likely want to charge another $130 for a diagnostic test - which is just them grabbing DTC codes - which I have.

I agree, they may not have to put the car in the service position to replace this sensor hence the hour of labor. But I have never done it or seen the block with my eyes so I don't know where everything is hidden. I'd rather look at it if I can. Right now you could not stick a mirror down there and see if if you knew where it was. The SA told me it was behind the oil filter housing on the back, however this parts diagram for the 3.0T FSI with charger shows parts 6+7 (two sensors) to be on the front, right side of the block when facing towards the engine bay from the street/ bumper.

"Just left the dealer earlier today and learned that the oil pressure sensor that needs replacement is behind the intake and above the trans- not under the supercharger!. There are two sensors next to each other and only one needed replacement. It is a blind reach around job-making it hard to start threads on new sensor install. Sensor was only $15."

I read that post as well regarding the A6. When looking at this parts diagram, the oil cap is on the right and the pulleys are on the front which would indicate that the sensors are on the right.

Okay so here is an update. I had an hour to kill so I wanted to locate the sensor. My car was cold. Perfect. I disconnect a lot of sensors/ a harness behind the blower and found a single gray sensor/ oil switch that bolts into the block. It is two wires, just like my new purple part. There is a brown/ green wire, and a blue/ red wire that plugs into the sensor. No other wires ran off this harness into an oil switch. I cannot locate the purple top sensor.
