Apple Lightning to 30-pin Adapter anyone use it ?

I still can't believe Audi ships a 2016 model year car with a 30 pin apple connector. Besides that, has anyone used the lightning adapter on their Audi accessory 30 pin cable and does it play music and display on the screen? Is the sound junk or OK? I can't see paying another $130 bucks off the audi accessory site for a lightning cord vs. $30 for the adapter from Apple.

I have used the adapter and it seemed to work fine. Although honestly I just use Bluetooth most of the time anyway.

I have used the bluetooth, but for my ipod it keeps dropping the connection and I have to remove and re-pair the device to get it to work. It's a PITA.

I seem to recall that not all adapters do audio as well as power. This one works well for me though.

Thanks for the feedback. Like I stated, the bluetooth connection to my Nano keeps getting dropped and is a pain to re-pair. Interesting enough, my work windows mobile phone, never loses a connection.

Anyway I just ordered the cable, I'll give a specific review of any limits at least connecting to my Ipod NANO 7th gen. Thanks.

My experiences are with a B8 S4 and a C7 A6 and S6, but the apple adapter works for me. I haven't tried it with my 6s yet, but it worked great with my iPhone 5 and allowed for playback and charging at the same time. I haven't used it to play music from my Nano, but I have used it to charge my Nano on the way to work.

Here is what I did and a result of this I got lightening ami yellow cable for free. I called Audi of America (AOA) customer relation main number and complained to AOA that they sell 2015 MY cars and include an ancient 30 pin apple connector. Their excuse was that Audi cannot keep up with the smartphone updates (apple, samsung, google etc change their features almost every year which was not possible for Audi to keep up). My answer to that excuse was why then AOA sells lightening cable apple AMI connector as an accessory for an astoundingly expensive price. Audi in fact developed that cable long before I purchased my S3 and a little time later after Apple adopted lightening connection starting iPhone 5. So that excuse (not being able to keep up with changing smartphone technology pace) was not valid. She said "can I put you on hold for a sec?. Then she came back and said please go to your dealer's parts department and pick up the cable that you are requesting. AOA called my Audi dealer and must have instructed them to give me one for free.

Pardon me for such a lengthy response as I could have said just call AOA and complain and that will get a new cable you need. I chose a longer route because I wanted to emphasize the Audi's poor decision not to include the new cable. The good news starting 2016 MY A4 and other models use regular USB connection, which they should have done really long time ago. Anyhow please call them and request one and you have a very good chance to receive the new cable for free.

When I bought the car, Audi threw in the 30pin to lightning adapter for free. Worked fine. However I went and bought a short adapter cable to that I could set my phone nearer the cup holders. I got the short cord as shown in the pictures above (official apple cord). Works great for playing music and charging all at once. Only regret is I wish it were a bit longer. It's not long enough to set my phone down into the cup holder. It just rests on top of it more or less.

I rec'd my cord adapter and it works great. Can get to my playlists, charges as expected. Love having no worries about the pairing. To the post about aftermarket adapters, I personally have had hit and miss experiences with aftermarket adapters and cords for my apple computer and tend to just pony up the few extra dollars for the apple product.

I did just recently receive and complete my Audi Quality survey and grilled them in the free text portion of the survey about this exact issue.
