    Audi Dealership as APR Dealer

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My closest APR dealer is the Audi dealership in town. Does anyone know if that would make them less likely to TD1 or would they automatically flag your car once tuned? Seems like a strange conflict of interest of sorts. They're really the only convenient place, but might I be better of traveling a bit more to stay off the radar?

What else would they do if not tune?

Haha. That's my concern! I don't understand why an Audi dealer would also be an APR dealer.

On my GTI, the VW dealership was APR. They tuned my GTI and I had to sign a sheet acknowledging the tune. They never gave me an issue for warranty repair though. I can pretty much guarantee that dealer will TD1 your car if you tune through them.

The problem is that there are dozens of people that work at a dealership. I bet if you asked 10 employees you would get differing opinions from several of them. Add to this that a "cool" service writer or manager could leave at any time and be replaced by a jerk. Additionally, all it takes is one person at the dealership to plug in the machine to the network or manually enter the code. And even more, if the dealership ends up entering a dealership invoice, your tuning could be entered into the computer for all to see. I would not go to a dealership for a tune :)

If installed by the dealer, these parts are covered under your warranty AFAIK...at least that's how the Audi dealership I got my car from explained it to me. The freely did intake/exhaust/suspension/wheel packages on new cars that were covered under warranty but Audi America wouldn't allow them to tune cars.

    No.....

My local Audi dealer is also a GIAC dealer. They say they will flash back to stock during service visits. But just because the dealer does your flash doesn't make you safe from TD1.

Yeah, unfortunately they lied about that. Audi does not recognize any tuner or parts company besides Audi and the accessories sold directly through the Audi accessories catalog. The dealership can warrant their labor, usually for 12 months, but Audi does not extend any OEM warranty to the parts nor do they exempt from TD1.

    LOL what?

They will tune, install and sell you everything on their parts APR catalog.
My dealer is an APR dealer and always pushing APR tunes, the SAs are also very mod friendly so they will flash you back to stock before service(plugging in your car).
    Just ask.

This. The dealer that sold me my car flashed the DSG and APR Stage 1 but they warned me that they don't have a choice if Audi requires they scan my car. Same here at the dealer in my city. The service advisers are cool but they said it's an Audi thing and they will scan the car if required.

I already know it would be without warranty and am fine with that given the trade off for the power and performance gains. I won't let a dealer due routine maint. on my car anyway.

My first experience with this was yesterday. I find it odd that I drive into the same parking lot where the dealership sits and enter the performance shop, have the ECU flashed to stock and then go right around the corner to the service entrance. But, that's what I was told to do.

I will say though, that the service advisor says to me "you know your car is tuned right?" which began a small debate on what the hell is the point of flashing to stock if they already know... and he proceeds to tell me that as long as the scan they do during service doesn't flag the vehicle, that I am "ok..."

From there I went back to the performance shop, NEXT DOOR, and had them re-install the tune.

GOOFY process to say the least.

Actually, if it prevents you from getting a TD1, it is worth it. IMHO, that would be the only way to get a tune other than a piggyback.

I had mine at Nashville dealer for yearly service and spoke to them extensively about it. He said that an exhaust or intake was fine. They perform APR ECU tunes but void the warranty there. He said he highly recommended it once out of warranty. It was a recent policy change for them a year ago.

I agree, especially if they flash to stock/flash back for free!
