No beeping sound when leave lights on.

    Hey there,
I got a 2003 audi a4 1.9tdi and when i leave my lights on and leave the car.. No beeping or buzzing noise comes on? I didnt think this make had one? But i was thinking.. i had a Peogeot 206 99 and that had the device to tell me if i leave things on and i was thinking this is a audi a4 03 haha must be some device letting me know i left lights on!
Now i did some research, a lot must i say and i found out people are talking about cluster speakers? But you see i dont think its my cluster speaker, when i put my indicators on or hazards it ticks? Isnt that hooked to my cluster speaker? I am no mechanic and seeking some assistance!
Any if really appreciated, just want my audi working in tip top shape:)
Any ideas whats causing it not to beep/buzz when i leave the car with lights on?
    Let me know!
    Thank you all very much.
    Regards,
    Will.

You are regarding to the "chime", should happen when key is in the ignition turned to on and door is open, no seatbelt, headlight and any other warnings

Sorry yes that is correct! The "Chime" doesnt trigger.. Do you know why this is and if so, how do i fix this?
Is this also hooked to the indicators as i read most people pass it off to be a broken cluster speaker but a guy said on one the pages i looked at that if your indicators chuck (tick basically) then the cluster speaker works and its something else but i honestly dont know!

Anyway of finding out if the speaker is dead? And is that the cluster speaker you are on about? Like i said, my indicators tick and it sounds like its coming from the cluster but i could be wrong? Read it up off some guy saying its all hooked to the one cluster speaker? :z

VAGCOM Scan will tell you. I re-coded mine to disable the chime, but turned it back because it changed the dates in my instrument cluster lol.

I would think the indicator sound you're hearing is the relay. Could be wrong on that. Like Code 3 said, VCDS will tell you whether it's disabled purposely.

You think its annoying but you want to know what is really annoying? Having to walk all the way back to my car because I left the damned lights on and wasn't warned about it before I left it. Happens a few times a week.

Speaker in the cluster is dead. Does your seatbelt chime work? Or how about the speed warning?

With the key off do the headlights actually stay ON? I guess that your A4 is a lowline electrical system, since the NA A4s have a Highline system with a central electric control module that controls all the exterior lighting. With the lights ON but the key OFF, the headlights are turned OFF when the key is OFF even if the headlight switch is ON.

Headlights no but the parking/city lights do stay on with the key off and the switch on.

Yeah, OP is in Ireland. I am not sure if the electrical system is highline or lowline on his A4, if lowline, there is no CECM, and the headlights are powered directly from fuses in the fuse panel. I am thinking his A4 has lowline electrics. With Highline, the CECM adaptation values determine if the headlights and or parking lights stay ON or OFF with the key OFF, and headlight switch ON.

If I leave my headlights on and pull the key out, the parking lights and tail lights still stay on, 2002

The speed warning doesnt chime and i didnt think if i left a seatbelt off it would chime. Didnt think the car had that haha. But the speed doesnt chime i know that for sure and also when i leave lights on and walk away with key out it doesnt chime. Pretty annoying when you come back with flat battery.

Yeah i am from ireland and when i leave the side lights/city lights on it stays on if i leave with key but if i leave headlights on and take key out the headlights deactivate but the side lights stay on.

Mines the exact same on the 03. Headlights will turn off but the parking lights etc will stay on haha. Sucks in all fairness, i always double check when walking away incase but most times i do forget and come back just in time noticing lights are on or come back and battery totally flat.
Just hope some one can help out with this and point me in correct direction of fixing/solving this?
If its a dead cluster speaker how come the indicators work? Is that not on the same speaker or totally different? I dont have a VAGCOM scanner only a ELM327 but that doesnt do the whole scan needed to see if the speaker works. Well not that i know of..

Just a tip. Replace your bulbs with LEDs and it will take MUCH longer to drain your battery if you leave the lights on.

Headlights ON. Turn Key off and remove it. Open the drivers door- do your dome lights/ courtesy lights come on with door open? If so and- IF- there's no BEEEEEEEEEEEEP your speaker is dead.
If your dome light doesn't come on with drivers door open, then car doesn't know you're opening the door and wont beep, in this case go after the door latch.
The speaker in the cluster is very easy to replace- it's a simple piezoelectric speaker with two solders joints. I don't know the values it needs, but almost any speaker of similar size from a childs toy or random anything can be substituted. It might sound different or REALLY weird...but it's just a tiny crappy speaker that beeps.

That's what I was thinking about the speaker. I'd probably still buy the speaker from speedosolutions and just solder it myself. His description says you need temperature controlled tools. Does anyone see why this can't be done with just a normal one temp soldering iron?

Because he's a perfectionist! But yeah- any regular ol soldering iron will do it. Helps if its clean- this part is not exactly precision.

I'm worse at leaving overhead lights on, but never headlights. Aka, pretty good at leaving moonroof open when it rains:)

Then you have the highline electrics. Besides replacing the speaker in the IC, you can change the adaptation in the CECM to turn off all the exterior lights with the key OFF and the headlight switch ON.

You can fix it for free or for a few bucks. Go get one of those greeting cards that play music when you open it.. or in my case, grab one from the 10 or so I have in a drawer because people seem to love giving me noisy cards.. cut out the speaker leaving a centimeter or so of wire. Clip down the 4 post that hold the current speaker in place about 2 to 3 mm and solder it back together. Now place the 38mm flat plastic speaker you gutted from the greeting card on top of the speaker platform and soldier or twist the wires to the original post (the two that are close to one another). you can use some super glue to glue the speaker in place if you want. This took me about 20 minutes from start to reinstall and it sounds exactly the same as OEM.

    Damn,
    Not bad haha.
    Thanks very much!
Saves me ordering speaker in. Got loads of them noisy cards myself.
Will give this a shot and post update if needs be! Cheers for all the help.
