Question Android/iOS phone with a VCDS VAGCOM cable?

So I've searched a bit and haven't found an answer to this, but any chance there's a way of using the RossTech cable (non-WiFi or Bluetooth) with an Android or iOS phone? Assuming we have an official cable and a USB > Lightning or USB > MicroUSB connector...is there any chance? I don't want to have to buy another adapter when I have a $350 one sitting in my glove compartment.

Never heard of it. Some hacker out there somewhere might have done a workaround, but generally the drivers don't exist on mobile platforms and the code isn't written for it anyway. I can only imagine that maybe you'd find a tiny windows tablet /phablet and VCDS might install / run with the drivers. But not on IOS, nope.
Ross Tech's Hex-Net is the closest I've seen- but the price / limitations for the normal version makes it not worth it when I haave a decent touch screen laptop and a CEL like once a year.

Well I use a Surface Pro 2 for my laptop, so it's super portable, but it would just be nice to be able to plug the cable into my phone, if I were out and wasn't stopping at home to get my laptop.

Just to clarify your point, the Windows tablet/phablet would have to be running the regular version (x64/x86) of Windows. I.E. This would exclude most, if not all, of the cheaper "Windows" tablets/phablets that have ARM chips (e.g. Qualcomm Snapdragon) and run Windows Phone or Windows RT. And for most intents and purposes this means that getting the HEX-CAN and/or VCDS to run on a cheap Windows RT tablet sits firmly in the "not possible" category. But under the "impossible" of getting it to work on iOS.

(As a disclaimer for any nerdy types out there... I can think think of a few approaches that might result in at least a semi-functioning copy of VCDS on one of the cheap ARM-based tablets. But you could easily pick up a second minimum wage job and work fewer hours to buy a used Surface Pro 2 than you'd spend trying to get it to work reasonably well on a cheap Windows RT tablet. But of course for the nerdy types out there often the more effort it takes to hack it, the more worthwhile the hack is.)
