AC Not Blowing Very Well/ How to Repair Blend Door

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Question my AC is not working well. I recharged it but the air is only nominally cooler than the outside air. I finally got my heater to work by flushing out my heater core. I don't think its the climate control unit myself as if that were the case I don't think the AC would work well at all. I suspect it is the blend door because 1. the 'modified' air only blows out the central vents the side vents have very poor air flow and 2. If it were the just the fact that the AC has a leak I think it would be blowing any cool air by now seeing as I charged it a year ago. 3. On some lucky days I will have good AC

So any suggestions on how to fix the blend door or any other suggestions on what the problem could be?

use vagcom and check if you have any codes. I did once and I simply cleared them and my ac worked fine again. that's where I'd start

If you don't have any HVAC codes stored, what are the high and low side pressures with the system running, as well as the ambient temperature?

you can do basic settings on the HVAC module so it will relearn all the door positions/limits and such.

And how do I do I do that? So you don't think the blend door control mechanism is faulty or anything?

The flap actuators get stuck. Here's a fix:
    1. Remove glove compartment.
    2. Turn key to ON. Engine off.
    3. Play with HVAC controls and watch for movement in flap motors. No movement? Tap it with a screwdriver handle.

If you are lazy or pressed for time, try thumping the center console in the footwell area.

The trimpots on the servos are usually the problem, not the motor itself. See my link for an easy fix.

You're a genius! My AC was mildly cool at best. I figured out the recirc mode wasn't working. After a ridiculous amount of searching I came across your comment and boom! Ice cold AC again.

The entire job can be done in less than an hour. Taking out the glove box took up the majority of the time. When it cools down, I think I'll spin the other servos preemptively.

Motors and gears looked brand new so I pulled out the trimpot and spun it in my fingers a dozen times. Problem solved! Thank you!!
