    P0420 00 - Catalyst System; Bank 1 - BAD SMELL .... any ideas

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
About 3 weeks ago I noticed that my exhaust had a bad smell to it (happened overnight). More "chemical" like stench. Then 2 weeks later this code popped up.

I found plenty of info on the code itself but no one ever mentioned a bad smell form exhaust.

Any ideas? catalyst, o2 sensor? (i noticed no damage to exhaust damage while under car)

You need a Cat. The code tells you so. If your within the 8yr 80K miles you are still under warranty.

Make sure you flash back to stock or no go. If your car is out of factory warranty but it's tuned they may deny warranty, that happened to someone I know.

There is a new TSB out, for a software update on some models throwing Catalyst efficiency codes. If ya wanna PM me your VIN I can check if your VIN falls under it in the morning. Unless your for sure the cat is toast.

Dealer said driver cat is toast. Said warranty won't cover because I have APR stage one. Can I argue or do I just repair at a local place with OEM replacement?
