If you want HID headlights, do it right and buy a pair of good used OEM HID Xenon headlights from eBay or here in the classified section, then it is a simple plug and play swap of the OE HID headlights for your original halogen headlights.
All retro fit kits are illegal for sale and use and should not be installed. This is because the optics used with halogen lamps are different from the specific optics required for HID lamps. The OEM HID headlight specifications meet the requirements for safe use on public roads, by limiting uncontrolled glare for other drivers.
If you buy used OE HID headlights, inspect the projector bowls for burned off reflective mirror coating. If the reflective coating is burned off, new projectors will be needed and can be purchased on eBay for with low cost. When inspecting used projectors for burned bowls, do not wipe the mirror surface with anything, the coating is very thin and will be damaged if anything is used to wipe the surface. If the bowl mirror surface is in good condition, you can clean the mirror surface by using a rinse clean with a 50/50 solution of ammonia and distilled water, then rinse with distilled water and air dry. clean the projector lens with class cleaner and paper towels. You can also clean the inside of the housing lens cover with 50/50 ammonia and water, after removing the ballast from the housing, then rinse and dry the inside of the housing with a hair dryer. Reassemble the headlights installing the ballast and D1S burners.
After installation make sure the headlights are aimed properly. If adjustments are required, use a suitable pattern on a vertical wall, then turn the adjusters on the headlight housings. To adjust the vertical beam elevation, BOTH adjusters are turned equally. To adjust the horizontal beam aim, turn ONLY the OUTER adjuster screws. Aim the vertical beam elevation first, then adjust the horizontal transverse beam aim.

Review the website for important information regarding the legality and safety rules for using HID headlights on public roads.
Even though automatic beam elevation adjusters are required by federal regulations with HID headlights, this function will not be operational with swapped OE HID headlights because your A4 with original halogen headlights does not have the auto leveling equipment installed. With non original OE HID headlights, the lack of auto leveling is an unofficially accepted situation since auto leveling only adjusts for vehicle loading that can effect vertical beam elevation. Don't load your A4 with fat chicks or a lot of weight in the trunk at night time.
