My Alternator's voltage regulator is dead since my car was reading 17 Volts at the battery during engine idle along with some intermittent electrical issues with the windows and environmental controls not working while driving. Everything works electrically with the car once the engines not running but unfortunately just a short drive with the bad regulator meant my battery was puffed and smoking like crazy..
Anyways, I've checked with a few Audi dealers and the only voltage regulator (OEM part# 077903803C) according to their online parts database in all of North America is in Calgary Alberta and I called that dealership and they said it was pre ordered for a customers car as I suspected. So this part must be ordered directly from Germany with a couple of weeks ETA... ECS Tuning doesn't stock them and would have to order one through a dealer so same problem while JHM only sells the complete alternator which from California to me (Toronto) including shipping, duty and import fees and the insanely bad US-CDN exchange rate right now would mean about $1200+ for the alternator which would be even more than just buying a new one at a local Audi dealer IF they even had them in stock which they don't (Germany shipped again)!
No other Canadian Audi dealer has any voltage regulators or complete alternators and apparently no US dealer has a voltage regulator. A few US dealers have complete alternators but it would end up being way more than even JHM. so I was planning to have a very reputable electrical shop refurb my alternator and just swap in a new voltage generator.
So... end of rant...Anyone know how I can get my hands on a new regulator or fairly priced alternator?
Thanks.
