Gloss Wrap or Re-paint/Car Paint Repair?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello guys! I've been wanted to make my 2010 Audi A4 look as good as new on the exterior, because it has some scratches and doesn't look at good as I want it to. I've been thinking about taking the car to a auto paint center (http://www.maaco.com/auto_paint.html), but I also see that doing a glossy wrap on the car might also work and it might be cheaper. What would you guys recommend? Or if you have other ideas please share!

Depends on what you want out of it. Obviously the paint will be permanent and wrap temporary. If you want to change the color go for a wrap but realize you may end up painting it again at some point down the road.

First suggestion is don't go to Maaco - it's the drive-thru McDonalds equivalent of Paint Shops. Find a good local shop (or shops) and talk to them about what you're trying to get done. Good paints jobs cost money, and the old adage applies here - you get what you pay for.

If you decide to wrap, make sure you fix any dents or door dings ahead of time. Wraps tends to enhance the appearance of dings.

Stay away from Maaco. I used to work at a place across the street from a Maaco and all the cars that came out of there looked like shit. Especially their super cheap Ambassador finish. Find a reputable shop and spend the money to do it right.

I've been contemplating that same thing, until I saw this dip and how cheap it is to do..

Probably wouldn't go for that color, but the amount of times I can dip, peel and repeat versus a vinyl wrap done correctly is amazing.

I'm gonna find as many body shops as I can around my area and look at their reviews. Then I'll go in for estimates and decide which one based on price and costumer ratings. I'm a college student so money is a delicacy! Haha

I like the idea of that but I would rather have a black to red and blue or something rather than the purple and neon colors.

That would actually be amazing! It looks pretty nice. I just have to find a place that could do it.

A legit paint job plus body work is going to run you a few thousand dollars as well as a wrap. Plasti dip would be your cheapest route. I just don't think I'd have the balls to do it in my audi.

You could always peel it off. I want to see if I can get a place called The Auto Skin here in Orlando can do that Nardo Grey Plasti Dip on it. Since its liquid "wrap" it may cost more but it will last longer and look better hopefully
