Brakes/Rotors for 2010 A4 Quattro need some advise?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
After 30k, my brake pad is wearing out and dealer told me to replace em asap. I do hear the braking sound already.

This is the first brake pad and rotor replacement since I haven't driven the car that much since I bought it.

Any suggestion which brand and model I should go for? or should I just go for original parts?

I see that the rotor cost about $125 each x4 ,

I also see those cheap sets including all four rotor and brake pads cost about $350 in total on ebay.

Please please give me some advise.

I am not looking for dirt cheap, I want similar experience comparing to the original ones.

    thanks in advance.

ECS has kits that include pads and rotors, they have OE parts (at a cheaper price) and various other options that will fit and function as the originals did or better. Personally I also haven't changed the brakes on either of mine, but others have switched to Akebono pads because they create less brake dust and I'll do the same whenever I need to replace my brakes.

Wow 30k....I'm lucky if my brakes last me 20k!. I've tried many different set ups..best in my opinion are akebono pads and Zimmerman rotors(oem quality but cheaper) virtually no dust and very quiet.

Akebono pads, centric rotors. Full set up for just over $400 on Amazon. A lot more from tire rack. This is the combo I use on all our our cars. It's amazing. Centric rotors have a nice black coating that lasts. No rust.

Got hawk 5.0 pads, centric high carbon rotors, and stainless lines from auto anything for just over $500. Without the lines they were just above $400.

Running Akebono pads and StopTech rotors. Akebonos are the best bang for your buck, and you can go Centric to lower the cost. They're the parent company of StopTech anyway, so the quality is still there.

To the OP - Akebono pads are great pads and have zero dust BUT you will loose that initial bite that the stock pads have. On my S4, I had the Akebono for a few months but went back to stock pads after a year since I wanted more bite. I hated the dust but just washed my car once a week:)

    thanks guys

At the end went with Akebono EUR1018 and Akebono EUR1322 pads
and the rotor went with Centric Premium High Carbon Brake Rotor

everything totals out less than $350.00.

    thanks!
time to find a nice place to pop them in.

How are you guys very little out if your pads, also there is usually no need in doing your rears when doing your front.

I did my fronts and rears when I switched to Akebonos just so I had a fresh set all around and to have reduced brake dust on all four corners.

Smart move, thumbs up. If you are not tracking your vehicle or making multiple, simultaneous 60 to 0 mph stops, you can manage just fine with ceramic pads and do away with all that nasty dust. Quite pleased with my Stoptech Posiquiet ceramics and Stoptech slotted rotors.

I was forced to make a couple of hard high speed stops on the LA freeway this week and they feel amazing with the Stoptech ST40 front BBK setup. I was actually going to go with more aggressive pads. It was actually the Support Techs from Stoptech themselves that recommended I go with the ceramics for street use.

made the mistake of using stop tech slotted rotors with oem pads.
thought the oem pads were a semi metallic, not organic.
my pedal distance is rough and basically have no initial bite.

    sigh.

I'm pretty sure my original pads had 70k on them, I checked all of the service records from the previous owner and it didn't look like they were ever changed.

Same combo here as a few already mentioned; akebono ceramic pads all around with stoptech rotors. Definitely misses the "bite" of the OEM, but there is no dust, and the braking force is better than OEM. Can't go wrong with the combo.

Same here. Nearly 31k and just had my state inspection at dealer and they noted all is well. I'm hoping to get another 30k out of them

aside from buying new pads again, anything I can do?
it's odd my brake pedal is spongy.

Whenever I have to change mine, I want to be sure that the brakes don't squeal when it's cold out.

Love my A4, but that is one thing that I have never experienced with other German auto's and the manufacturer says it's normal.

It's like I'm coming to a stop in a Yugo with how loud it squeals when cold out.

    I've never had that problem.

My car is in the shop now. I'm having Powerstop slotted/drilled rotors and Akebono ceramic pads installed on the rear. This is the first brake job and I'm at 58k miles. Fronts pads still have a lot of meat on them.

When I brought up my issue with the squealing, folks here and at the dealership say it was normal during cold temps.
