    Rear License Plate Screw Nuts

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Anyone know where you can purchase the screw nuts for the rear license plate? I am missing two of them and would rather not spend $100 on a new rear license plate just for two screw nuts lol. Trying to remove all rattles from my vehicle and this is one of the remaining places I need to fix.

    Thanks!

It's a metric screw, M6 fine thread, 12-16mm length depending on the thickness of your plate/frame.

I couldn't find any in stainless at the hardware store, was about to go to the specialty fastener shop next week. Stopped by dealer, my sales rep got me a set of them (just added new plate frame and the original ones were too short).

As a variation on the OP's message, I would like to know the source for good to show quality screws for both the front and rear license plates. I know it seems trivial and I know many people will tell me to go to a hardware store. But I want something very good quality. Why put something industrial grade on a vehicle that looks so sleek and refined?

I found the screws that ecs listed at Home Depot, I think they came in packs of 2. Regarding the finish of the screws, I'm not sure if this suits your standards for quality but one option is screw covers, they are a little bulky but I thought it was a huge improvement for $4.

They're probably still in the license plate bracket. If you get a neodymium magnet you can probably fish them out.

I got replacements at Lowe's. They also had brass in that size, if you wanted that gold color look. Home Depot had then as well. $6.00 done.(2 packs of 3)

the square shaped nuts behind the bracket are held by prongs. using license plate bolts that are too long will push these prongs out of the bracket.

to retrieve them, you will need to remove the bracket which is held by two torx bolts and two strips of double sided tape. heat and fishing line will help remove the tape.

i doubt you will be able to find these nuts at your local hardware store.

They look like the server rack mount nuts we use in the data center.

These will probably do, and they'll never fall into the bracket again.

Thanks for the suggestion. I do try to use screw covers when I can to give it a clean look. Sometimes they just won't fit with the screws I have.

These are M6 "Cage Nuts." No, "Any Auto Parts Store" will NOT carry these. My local Ace hardware sells them, in the Hillman Hardware section (The racks and racks of plastic bins with funny parts). As TexasDfwS4 notes, they are used extensively in datacenter rack mount equipment, and stores that cater to that sort of thing will sell them too. If you are in Seattle, I know that Vetco Electronics sells them. http://www.vetco.net/catalog/product...ducts_id=15109
