Some fun comparisons between STI and S4

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Thought Iwould change the subject from all of the APR stage 3 jibberish

My roommate just purchased a 2016 STI, and we did a couple of 20-80 pulls in Mexico =) wanted to share the results!

stock vs stock (i had a Roc Euro intake and AWE track exhaust) , i pulled about 4 car lengths at 80

Cobb Stage 1+ (intake and tune) vs me w/ intake/exhaust Pretty much dead even until i shift, then I pull faster 1 car length and 80

Cobb Stage 1+ vs GIAC stage 1 plus intake and exhaust
    , i pulled about 3-4 car lengths at 80

really cool to see consistent results with what you would expect,

I do wish i would have seen a larger gap at GIAC stage 1 though. considering how much power I get to the wheels now.

next test is him going stage 3 (turbo back and injectors) in December, so we will do another couple pulls. I'm excited to see the results of that!

Techincally a stage 3 for them would be a turbo upgrade at that point. Does your room mate have a Downpipe? The sti is lighter vs out cars

That's really impressive, since the STi is actually faster 0-60 than the S4, stock. Stock S4 (2015) is listed as 4.9 seconds 0-60, while a stock STi (2015, but probably about the same for 2016) is 4.6. If you had him beat 4 car lengths at 80, the guy doesn't know how to drive his car. There's no way the difference should be that big.

Certain tests on the S4 have it as low as 4.4 to 60, you are cherry picking numbers. The S4 is a faster car period. You make it seem like 0 - 60 with one test is written as gospel. Sti's really slow down at speed, without a perfect launch their crappy torque curve, and much lower WHP they aren't really that fast. At speed the S4 will walk one pretty easily.

Here is an example, in this one the stock S4 is almost trapping 109 mph. FF to 2:45.

I've seen the S4 get tested consistently in the 4.4 to 4.5 second range 0-60 by more than couple of mags. Specifically, Motortrend got the 0-60 time of S4 at 4.4 for the S4 while the 2016 STI was at 4.6. The time you quote is Audi's factory conservative time (which is typical for Audi and all other German brands). I'm not surprised by these results at all.

I traded my '15 sti for my S4. The S4 is definitely the faster car. With the STI I trapped between 99-103mph (stock) and between 105-109mph (stage2 protune) at Capital raceway in MD. One thing was, after shifting to 4th gear the power just dropped off because the VF was close to being maxed out. The STI was a fun car but its build quality was lacking, had horrible bucking problems in 1st gear, and the god damn rattles drove me crazy. Also, I had to get warranty work on the two pistons due to cracked ringlands. Luckily, I kept it stock for the first 6 months when it happened, but I couldn't get over the glass engine and it was ALWAYS on my mind after going Stage II.

The infamous ringlands, lol. I was going to get an STI this year but they didn't change the motor like everyone was hoping. When they do change I think a lot more people will be buying them up. You throw a DP, exhaust and a pro tune those things will fly. I miss my WRX a little bit.

Former STI owner here. I absolutely loved my 2007 and legally raced the hell out of it (autocross), but I also went through the EJ257 struggle. I went through 4 motors in that car, one of which was "built".

These results seem correct. Keep in mind though that weight plays a huge factor. A 2015 STI has a curb weight of ~3386. The S4 comes in at about 3850-3950. That's a ~500 pound difference.

When I had my STI 2011, I was murdering m3s all day. I didn't keep it stock long at all, rotated turbo, equlal length headers, dp, uppipe, exhaust , professional tune. Dynoed the car at lower 400 and almost 450 tq.

Ah ringland failures. That's the reason that I have my B8 now. My '11 STi (bone stock) got a new short block at 8,000 miles and had been to the dealer with misfire CEL's from 2,500 miles. No racing, no track. Just daily driven. Subaru bought it back after it threw another CEL 80 miles after new motor installed.

    Grave digging

But maybe will help someone else

    I've had 3 sti (05 fbo,13 stock,16stock)
    After the 05 bought a 330i
    After 2013 sti picked up a 2011 335i

Now I just sold my 2016 sti for a 2012 s4 dsg sport differential. Went with a 2012 cause I wanted hydraulic steering.

I find the s4 superior every way except going into corners.
This car keeps up with my super raw 05 sti. A car I dumped a stupid amount of money.
