Labor hours for a full Control Arm job?

So after 3 years on air and driving super low I am pretty sure my control arms are shot, lots of rattling and clunking from the front end at low speeds. I just picked up a full Myele HD Control Arm kit from Europa and was planning on having my shop install it this weekend. I have gone to them for 10+ years on numerous cars and they have always done me right, but they are claiming that it is a 10 hour job to do this install which seems pretty high to me. It is for all 8 control arms, tie rod ends, and sway bar links. Has anyone done this whole job before? How much labor did you get quoted/pay? They asked my opinion so just looking for some insight.

    Thanks!

How much did they quote you? Will it include an alignment?

The fact that you have your own parts throws a wrench in the profit for that type of job so that may be a reason too.

Honestly though if you are mechanically inclined you do it and then drive it to an alignment shop

Just talked to my trusted mechanic that I have been going to for many years (similar relationship as you have with yours) and asked him how many hours to do the work. He estimated 4 to 5 hours for the job of REPLACING all components. Then a wheel alignement would need to be done after that.

Sounds like your shop either is gouging you a bit, or are not confident thay can do the job quickly and are over estimating (under promise over deliver type thing).

That job could easily be done in 4-5 hours. I work on these things every day and keep in mind I work in the salt belt. Good time on that would be 3-3.5 hours. I think 4-5 hours is reasonable 10 hours is not reasonable at all. I imagine they looked up book time 8 times to change each arm not realizing that once you are in there it is much easier to replace them all at once.

Thanks for all the input guys; just sent them a note commenting about the time savings for doing them all at once vs. 1 of them times 8. Will see what they come back with.
