If you are going to reuse your chains, before you remove them, loop and twist a short length of wire through one front link of each chain. When you go to put them back on you'll know which way. You don't want to put them on backwards.

I used all new chains, is there a front side to new ones?

No, but they wear in over time and miles.

    Thanks for that.
This will be my first time attempting such job, done timing belts which they are way way less complex.
A bit of dump question : do I need to remove the chains if I’m only swapping guides ? I had a look online and JHM chain job walkthrough and from what I have seen, I guess I can compress the tensioner(s) and slide stuff out.

Of course it got it's own number plates!!

    B6 S4..
A bit of history, I did post this before

Transmission shudder, when it happens I see the RPM moves slightly up down.
My first suspect was torque converter and second being coolant leak in to the trans fluid.

Took it to a shop and they said it’s most probably the TC, I did a Glycol test and was all good no coolant traces.

So I’m like 99% it is the TQ.

The question is: what else could cause such behaviour ?

I don’t want to open and replace just to discover it’s not the issue ?

That is usually the torque converter, however, I have heard of people having an issue with the valve body and the valve body seal that goes in between. You would probably be money ahead to replace the torque converter, rebuild the valve body and change the seal between the valve body and the transmission. I believe Sonnax sells a zip kit for our transmission.

Changed headlights. Unfortunately not willing to spend over $500 per headlight assembly just to have adaptive only to have them go bad in the future. Old ones were getting water inside from the adjuster screw (changed for the 3rd time). Oxidation inside and outside the lens. Plastic back covers were cracking and found signs of water inside one of the modules (still works for now but who knows for how long).
Found these on eBay, at first the LED DRL was not bright enough so I tore it apart and added brighter LEDs.
Coded the Xenon down to Halogen in the Conv. Elect Module and removed the fuse #10 in the driver's fuse box for the headlight range module to get rid of the lights on the dash.
New lights are LED and are extremely happy with how much better they are vs the Xenons.

Just finishing up installing my VF Engineering supercharger. Had to make a custom bracket to hold their updated larger heat exchanger and have a custom tune on standby.

Just sold my B6 in Abu Dhabi for a whopping $1800 (spent more on the engine refresh)
Moved to the B8 S4 platform. Faster but I preferred my B6.

I’m honestly in the same boat. Just a push away from parting out every mod on my B6 and moving on.

I spent over a decade and nearly 150k miles driving my S4 pretty much daily. Kind of over it now and just don’t feel like keeping the project going anymore.

    Hey Vinny.

The car has been for sale for 3 months with no other interest. We all spend good amounts on our cars, so I can only hope the guy enjoys it.
The crazy thing is that the US wouldn't let me ship it from UAE to US "because it doesn't meet US standards" but its actually a higher spec than my B8 S4. Now I just need to make my B8 drive like my B6.

Bummed to hear it. I'm suspecting that there's a B8.5 SQ5 in my future, but I hope to keep the B7 S4 going for quite a while longer. Nothing like a V8! You can still stop by and contribute here. Don't be a stranger!

Put humpty back together again and put some miles on her. Changed the power steering pump, coupler and shafts along with a new low pressure line. So much fun

Where did you get those lens! I didnt think they made them new the last time I looked.

Yesterday we detailed a 3.0, changed the oil in my S4, started the B7 center console swap, cleaned behind the wheel well liners and door blades, shampooed the interior, washed and clay bared the outside. Then did a test spot to see what the polishing will yield.... I cannot wait!

Bad pic, and it was only a 2 minute pass. My brother is going to help me goto town on the paint on this thing.

Question guys, just replaced IM gaskets and o rings to the oil filter housing chasing down an oil leak. Turns out to be the valley pan leaking. I have the ECS kit on hand, do I need to replace o rings and IM gaskets again? I literally only started the car for 5 minutes when I saw it leaking again and shut it down.

I see no harm in reusing. I've reused some pretty old intake manifold, or TB gaskets on 1.8ts in a pinch, and they still do their thing even under boost.

Got a new set of headlights from eBay, $200 for the pair. Taking it apart was easily done with a hot air gun and 4 hands. I compared the lens and they match perfectly with the OEM headlights. I just got tired of changing the o-ring for the headlight adjuster so I decided to use the eBay headlights instead. Plus I can install LED bulbs instead of the Xenon ones.

If you are looking to keep the stock Xenon headlight assembly but want new lenses I am sure they are swapable with a but load of effort. I am going to be keeping mine and attempting to remove the oxidized lenses soon and will report back on the difficulty.
I plan to keep looking a cheap pair of aftermarket headlights (under $150) to use as donor for the lens.

What grill is that? I haven't seen a mesh RS4 style grill that fits a DTM without the euro license plate indent...

    Thanks!

Engine oil and filter change, Tiptronic ATF drain/fill and filter change, and rear differential drain and fill. With the wiper reservoir, coolant and power steering renewal last year with the engine pull, that's all of the fluids I can think of except for brakes. That was on the agenda for this weekend too with a pads change and wheel rotation, but the ATF took longer than I expected, so it will have to be another weekend. I bought it with nearly 110k miles on it, and since I was the 4th owner and, as near as I can tell, it went the normal progression of well-off original owner doing dealer maintenance to the young guy I bought it from probably in over his head, I am assuming that the "lifetime fill" items were original.

So I wanted a more custom look to make the avant 'mine'. Recently I decided to add a fully custom front slitter as an add on to the slitter already installed. Technically its a 3 layered splitter all made from universal parts off amazon. I love the new look, to me it has a Motorsport look now. The wagons lines are so classy but it needed some style to accentuate the sportiness and reflect its snarling personality. I realize it might not be for everybody but it adds a much need racey look to the car.

2005 S4 Avant 6spd, engine swapped, down pipes, custom intake, TB heater bypass, 15mm spacers, custom body styling.
