What oil extractor are you using?

Looking at the Mityvac 7201. Found several references to this model in other forums but nothing in the S4 forum. Do you have it and like it? Are there better options out there?

    Thanks,

i tried it based on some peoples raving reviews... not a good idea. it leaked like crazy from one of the valves that could not be repaired without replacement. I decided to toss it and not deal with it ever again because it really screwed me up as i was not prepared for it to not work. AFter digging deeper i found that lots of people have had this problem. Some people tried to return and buy another and in some cases it worked fine, while in others it still didnt work. To me this is completely unacceptable and shows how poorly these things are assembled. I'll never buy or recommend a Mityvac product ever again.

This is just my experience and i am sure others will reply with better experience. BUt given the huge number of bad experiences, its not worth dealing with it. I am sticking with the traditional method of changing oil from the oil pan.

I've been using the 7201 for over a year now, don't regret buying it. Super convenient and easy to use. I kinda wish I got the one that operates with compressed air but this one works great too.

I've had a mityvac a pela and one from west marine and ended up throwing each of them away. Every couple years I get the idea I'm going to try another one and each time they just frustrated me. You pump them for about 20 minutes when drainig the oil only takes 2 minutes. I always get a little air leak at a joint and I end up losing suction and repositioning about 30 times. I guess it's me but me and extractors don't get along

I'm a mityvac user. Won't go back to traditional oil changes for any cars that require removal of an aerodynamic belly pan.

This looks like a better solution. Anyone use one of these?

I've had a pella and a mityvac and both disappointed me. After my Pella started to leak oil out of the top of the pump cylinder, I searched and found a 15 liter Yamaha extractor. The capacity is larger than the largest Pella and easily holds the nine quarts I need to extract with each oil change. My only suggestion is it comes with a very small diameter end hose which severely limits the flow rate. It was a simple enough to fix using a section of hose from my old Pella.

Mityvac 7400 - bought it in 2008, still works like a champ. Did oil change on s4 a few weeks back and it was a breeze.

I have had and used the Griots one for over 10 years and it still works great. When I had my TT, I experimented with using the extractor, and then pulling the drain plug (car was on ramps, so I was pulling from the lowest point in the oil pan.) I doubt that 4 more ounces of oil came out when I pulled the plug. That was good enough for me! Have used it about 6 times on my S4s. I stop it when the extractor has about 5 qts in it, and then pour it into my 5 gal oil recycle can, then continue to the end. Otherwise, it would prob overflow.

I've used this bad boy since 2004, and have used it in all my cars in-between routine maintenance (5-7K mile intervals). Still perfect suction and not a slight hint of leakage.

    Highly recommended!

in case you do not know, dealers use extraction pump . The full belly protection panel is just too much to remove and replace at oil changes,

Kind of like the looks of that Topsider can. The video makes a good case for it, to be sure.

I believe there are also low spots in the pan relative to the drain plug - i.e., simply draining the pan isn't going to get the same juicy bits at the bottom like an extractor will.

Pela 650 here. Works great so far, way faster than I expected. I use it on the mk7 GTI and S4 without a problem.

About to use an extractor for oil change on my Q5 for the first time this weekend (AudiCare finally expired). A few quick questions before I do.

Do I remove the old filter, then close up the empty housing so residual oil can drain down to the pan before extraction?

Should I leave the filler cap open or close during extraction?

Finally, how long should I wait after the engine has been turned off (after regular driving) to start extraction.

    Thanks!

I would take the oil filter out first, and not install the new till the end. The more are that the engine sees the quicker it sucks it out. leave the cap off for this reason also. id let it sit 30 min if you just drove the car, i usually do the oil change in the morning, i start the car for like 5 min to just get the oil warm.
