    Oil Filler Cap Leak

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've got an issue on my driver's side valve cover... There is oil leaking from the base of my oil filler cap and dripping down the valve cover.

Another issue is that there is oil dripping from the bottom of the coil packs, however I cannot tell if it is just from the filler cap or not..

I just recently did my valve cover gaskets & everything appeared fine, my passenger side valve cover is completely dry.

Idk if something went wrong with the spark plug gaskets or if I somehow put them on wrong; I will be removing the coils soon to see if there is oil inside or if anything is wrong...

I got some photos of the leak...

You can see at the base of the filler cap oil is seeping out

Here are the leaks at the bottom of the coil packs...

I have not found anything online on how to remove the "housing" to the actual oil cap... If you have taken it off please let me know how..

    Thanks

I see what you mean, that's just a piece of plastic that goes around the metal on the valve cover, the oil appears to be dripping between the metal and that "boot"

I checked my oil cap, and the part # on mine is 078103485B.. it appears to be an older revision of the vented "F" version of the cap you mentioned.

I noticed there is supposed to be a gasket on the oil cap, I cannot tell if mine is there or where it would sit..

Here are photos of it, (Also check out the grime inside the oil filler)

    A few issues.....

I checked my dipstick and noticed a smell of gas in the oil... My service light has come on recently, however I just had the oil changed less than 3 months ago, and much less than 3k miles ago. I read the interval is supposed to be 8k miles in the system? Idk if there is a time interval as well... Also I believe my oil is getting low because I'm sure I lost some when I recently did my VCG and oil cooler gasket, so the level may be why the light is on...

I will be doing an oil change very soon...

Anyways I started the car up and went to take the above pictures ^^^.. & saw something I've never seen before.. when I removed the oil cap there was smoke rolling out of it, and again could smell gas?

You can get an oil filler cap gasket from partstrain.com for about $3.50 (I just got one - manufacturer name is OES I believe). It's hard to see in your photo, but looks like you may not have a rubber cap gasket at all. If you're confident you don't have a leak from the VCGs, might as well do another oil change and see if that helps the issue.
