Raced Cobalt SS and...

Raced a cobalt ss on the highway with my stage 2 S4. I had a passenger and he did jump but I was not able to catch up (50 mph - 115 mph)? Talked to the owner afterwards and he said about 310 whp but car also weighs about 2900 lbs.

About right. They can be stout especially in turbo form. Awd doesn't help us from a roll either.

Their 2.0 turbo wakes up with a simple tune + bolt-ons, and its a stout engine too with a "decent" turbo that it comes with from the factory. Doesn't surprise me.

A Chevy Cobalt SS? Wow, that's a new low. Sounds like the car of choice for a high school Junior, ha-ha. Seriously, a person can probably take any number of grocery getters and modify them to run 12's in the quarter and 0-60 in the four second range. It just depends upon how much you want to spend, what car you want to modify, and then it can be a real sleeper.

Cobalt driver probably knows how to work on his own car. That can't be said for at least 75% of b8 owners based on the shit I see on this forum.

Bolt on cobalt ss on e85 are really fast, make a lot of power and the Colbert itself is a tin box.

I raced one in my b5 awhile back and only put about 3 cars on him. And my b5 was FAST.

Those cobalts are no joke a properly tuned one will put a hurtin on a S4, you should have kept going our cars have a great top end. I work with a guy who's got a stage 2 13' STI and every time we run it's the same thing. He takes me 0-60 (that thing launches like crazy) but by the time we hit 80 I'm already on him, last time I shut it down at 140 and when we were done I asked what he got his up to he said 120 and he goes balls to the walls and doesn't let up. I'm stock and he's stage 2 with an intake and exhaust.

Early ones were SC the latter and better ones used the outstanding 2.0l Turbo from the Solstice GXP and other variants. IIRC 2008 was the first year for the turbo in them. They respond extremely well to Bolt on mods and tunes.

Their stock rev limit is about 6200 rpm. IIRC the turbo is a k04-based model that pushes up to about 21 psi on a stock tune (depending on ambient conditions) but some tuned cars are spiking to the upper 20's, although it can't hold it to redline. It's built for a strong low end, so its out of breath at the higher rpm's.

I've seen them on stock turbos, stock map sensors with an intake get dialed in at 320/340 wheel horsepower. Here's the dyno from it. Swap out the turbo for one that can not burn up with more boost, retune it and 400+hp is not hard to hit.

That's a ridiculous statement. It's a modded 2900lb car. Simple power-to-weight ratio at work.

E9X M3 or 6.2 C63 would have been the same story...

Hmm seems a bit slow for an s4 stage 2+. My buddy with a k04 a4 raced a cobalt ss, there were 4 of us in his car, the cobalt only had him and his girl in it, and we pulled probably 4-6 car lenghts on him.

Those turbo SS cobalts are pretty stout for stock. They come with front Brembo's already and a stout turbo engine with a big turbo already. Their are so many mods out there and tricks to make that engine handle anything you can throw at it. The Matco team uses the same engine in their pro stock class and its makes mad power. They sandwich the entire engine together with ARP bolts and nuts that hold the mains to the head all together with one bolt. They drill out the bolt and the main's holes line right up with the head bolt holes.

Yes if it was supercharged and he beat you thats lame. Those engines are garbage and don't make any power really.

They're are underestimated... Especially with a Hans kit on them. Over 400 whp.

Err...but why? Are you saying you wouldn't rather drive the S4 than a Cobalt? Do you think they're in remotely the same class? Are you saying they should be?

You're being butthurt is not because of the comments, but because you think they're snobby...but in reality you probably feel the exact same. A Cobalt cannot be in the same league as an S4, no matter if it can keep up in speed or not.

could be, had an exhaust, but I bet the tune is what really helps them out, are those things turbo'ed? i seem to remember meeting a guy with one and he was saying he was doing a turbo swap but it came supercharged or something along those lines.
