RS 5 Aluminum fuel door...Is there any?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

I would like to have an aluminum fuel door like the one on the TT or the R8 for my Rs5. Is there a vendor who makes them for our cars?
Does the TT or the R8 fit?
    Thanks!

You could always wrapt it in aluminum wrap. I had a carbon fiber wrap on my old car and the gas tank lid looked like the real thing.

Thanks for the idea DinB! Actually if the fuel door existed I was going to get it painted satin Black. It is not the aluminum appearance I'm looking for it is the design with the bolts.

Mystery solved. Only fueled the car once thus far but I was deeply annoyed that I couldn't figure it out.

What!!! You guys fuel your own cars? But that involves getting out of the car and touching dirty pump handles.

I much prefer the 'roll down the window and ask the pump man for a full tank of 98, then honk the horn when it's full' method of refuelling

I didn't even realise the car had a fuel cap.

Next you'll be telling me you put air in your tires.

What!!! You guys don't fuel your own cars? But that involves someone else potentially nicking the paint with the pump or possibly dribbling gas down your paint.

I much prefer the 'ol get out of your car and pump the gas with a full tank of 91 (fuck california), then jump back in the car when it's full method of refueling.

I totally realize the car has a fuel cap and I know how to rest it while fueling.

Hey, the picture of my fuel door is going viral! It's a bit of a flimsy setup on the RS5 due to the round fuel door. You have to make sure to not have any twisting tension in that rubber cord, otherwise it doesn't stay on there. The B7 S4 had the same setup where you just hang the gas cap off the fuel door. I see many folks who can't figure it out and just leave the gas cap dangling off of the side of the car, I guess that's why they went to the Toyota idiot proof setup on the A/S5 where you stick it in a hole.

Seriously, you can only get 91 in California? I was told not to put anything other than 98 in the tank. Are you down on power?

Different Octane Rating. The US rates fuel based on the Anti-Knock Index which is defined as the average of the Research Octane Number (RON) and the Motor Octane Number (MON), (R+M)/2. Most of the rest of the world uses RON only. So, you are filling with 98RON, we in Cali are filling with 91(R+M)/2. The RON number of the California Premium blend is not published, but it's probably somewhere around 95-97. Most other states sell 93(R+M)/2, which is supposed to be closer to 98RON.

In terms of power, it's mostly a wash. We have the benefit of being at sea level. Somebody filling 93(R+M)/2 at a higher elevation is probably down on power compared to us at 91(R+M)/2 at sea level.
