I'm sure it's not gonna happen to all their batteries but just dealing with their terrible joke of a warranty isn't worth it. Who is going to really keep their receipt for 5 years???

there's a lot of performance battery options these days. you could keep a spare in your trunk, put one in the front, and still save weight (and money at that price).

this is coming from a guy who only has the 1 oddesey 15lber in the front, and has had multiple dates bump start his car for him though, so grain of salt as needed.

The other issue with traditional lead acid batteries is they can get critically low to the point where they will never be 100% again. Mine still works fine because I drive my car on an almost daily basis but after a week or so, it's definitely low on juice.

Youd think it was paved in gold for what they charge at those places. It was $100 last time I parked at PHL for a weekend. Thank god for expense reports

There are two types of batteries for our cars. The early uses a smaller (group 42?) with the hold down on the pside end of the battery.
The later had a larger (group 91?) with the hold down on the front side of the battery. (front pside corner)
Make sure the terminals are on the correct sides also, you can get them with +/- on either side.

There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.

naw that's about right for a 15lber. problem is, you're on a date 2 years later, and your girl's gotta take off her heals to push your car in the parking lot cause she's scared to pop the clutch. Now you gotta get a new battery and a new girl.

just to directly answer the question, most batteries may not fit in your battery tray without modifying the mounting equipment, but virtually all car batteries are interchangeable.

they're 12volt batteries, then all you need is sufficient cranking amps (think it's around 750+ for our cars), and then a sufficient way of mounting it (drill a hole for random bolts, buy a kit, or zip ties work)

I've bought two Bosch batteries for both my cars recently at Pep Boys for around $150 a piece. obviously no word on longevity yet, but my one b5 sits all week and has no issue firing right up

They are able to be fully discharged and will have the ability to recharged and function again. My BMW has one and that thing has died on many occasions (due to working on the car and not starting/charging) and with a recharge it's fine.

If you are into racing, and have relocated the battery inside the car, an AGM battery will be required. I personally haven't been super impressed by the AGM batteries and have since gone back to a traditional lead battery (bosch).

The ability to charge and discharge without hurting the battery is called a deep cycle battery, both AGM and lead have these options. AGM lets off no fumes so they can be mounted inside the car without worrying about being suffocated. AGM do require a charger that is specific to them, a traditional charger will damage the battery. For people looking at optima, get the yellow top (or blue top - marine), the red top is considered a starting battery and damage to the battery can happen after 1 full discharge.

Also, the absorbed glass mat (AGM) batteries are not wet batteries like traditional lead/acid, which makes them much safer. They are completely sealed. We use them in the yachts we build where I work. Deep cycle capability is a great feature.

Afaik your stock battery was AGM and that's why it lasted many many years. It is not uncommon for these to run for 10y+ before they need to be changed. What you get at dealership for $200+ is also AGM.

If you buy normal cheap-o SLA, it will last maybe couple of years and god forbid you accdientally discharge it - it will get permanently damaged and lose a lot of its capacity on each subsequent discharge.

actually you can charge your agm with a regular charger you just have to show the charger that the agm is there (it cant see it b/c it discharges so much) by hooking up a battery to the battery/charger for a little bit.... I used my portable jumper battery but took me a while to figure this out........

My original battery was replaced under warranty about a month before the warranty expired (so about 4yrs.). The second also lasted about 4yrs. +/- a couple months.

2 batteries i swear by: Interstate and Odyssey. note: Odyssey NOT optima.

here's why. : Interstates generally have a 7 year warranty or better. My first lasted me over 11 years.

Odyssey: if you want the sealed light weight type, this is your choice. First one lasted ~ 7 years, also you can run them flat and recharge no issue. (we use em' in Airplanes)

I always swore by Sears Die Hards, but I dont know if any battery is built like they used to. Between the EPA and CARB, a lot of the good shit has gone bye bye.

Had one in a jetta back in high school that endured major abuse. Fully drained weekly at parties with the bump in the trunk, and an alternater that would charged at 18v sometimes, and not at all others.

Iirc, there were some threads a while back on a Die Hard Platinum that was AGM and sounded like a relabeled top shelf battery.

So I picked up my new battery from VW today.

Audi p/n 000-915-105-AG has been discontinued and I was given 000-915-105-DH-DSP. This was the cheapest route to go. Autozone and Advance were around $150. The dealer is normally $134.

I've own the Braille 5lb, 15lb, and 21lb. The 15lb is good for daily driving in warmer climates
with no added stereos or current draw. The 21lb is good for daily in up to semi cold climates,
V8's, big stereo's etc. The 5lber lasted 2 passes on the b5 s4 at the drag strip and about 15 minutes
of driving on I95 north from Miami before dying.
