Who hear has gone from a 997 to rs4…or visa versa?

I'm considering adding either a 997S(targa 4s or c4s) or RS4 to the garage.I've very familiar with both and am really on the fence as to which. This would not be my daily….and I have a s4 avant and 993 c4s.I love both of those for different reason but am needing something a little newer for the kiddos and may even sell the avant to help fund the new ride.I know the v8 is intoxicating in the rs but the flat six ain't bad either.Thoughts and opinions welcome

Just bought a 997.1 turbo. The RS4 is so smooth and practical as a DD relative to the 911, but both are daily drive able. I did get 26 mpg on my way to work in the turbo the other day!

They are such different cars - you really need to drive them both and decide what is right for you

If buying a 997, I would recommend a C4S or a Turbo. My stepfather daily drives his C4S 75 miles a day for the last 4 years. Reliable and fun, he used to have a 996 C4 (non S) and hands down says the S is a much better package. Ive driven 997 C4 and C4s and I wouldn't get anything less than the S.

I had a 996 Targa back in 2008. Eventually went to an RS4. Then out of the RS4 to other things. Test drove a 997 C4S and was sorely disappointed. I really expected it to be faster and overall a nicer car. In my opinion it's just not. I bought another RS4. More recently Porsche has greatly stepped up their game in regards to the vehicle dynamics, build quality and reliability. But if you're looking at a similarly priced Porsche and RS4 it's likely you won't get to the Porsches that have those updates. They are different cars, but my decision was a no-brainer. Best of luck.

Not understanding. If you regularly need to transport multiple "kiddos" then 997 does not make much sense. And the newest RS4 you'll find is 7 years old...

I think the 997 is going to be tough if you need to transport kids with it. I'm a bigger guy, and when I drove our shop Turbo, there was no rear seat leg room. RS4 is tight, but more roomy by comparison. If you don't need the practicality of four doors (or a trunk), and its normally you or you and your SO in the car, go the 997. With snow tires, they're DD material year round (minus the ground clearance).

When I say newer…my s4 avant is 12 years old and 993 c4s is approaching 20 years old.Anything under 10 years old is "new " to meMy kidds are little and the car seats fit okay in the 993 and i know the 997 is bigger than then the 993 for sure so they'd be fine for sure

I've owned both and actually had a pair of RS4's before my 997.2 (S). For a daily I would go RS4. You already have a 993 for weekend fun and with the RS4 you don't need the S4 which helps fund it.

Had a 997.2 turbo 6 speed and rs4 at same time....ended up selling Porsche and keeping rs4. Although faster, the Porsche lacked the instant v8 response, exhaust sound, and 8k+ revs. The rs4 was more practical and safer in snow...the Porsche although awd still was able to slide the rear out too often. As for looks, I actually like the rs4 better. I do have coilovers and titanium package which helps aesthetics IMO.

Not a day goes by where I don't regret selling my RS4, but if you are looking for a fun car (not a daily) I'd have to say get the 997. The RS4 is probably the best daily out there but on weekend fun runs I found myself reaching for the keys to the 993tt or 997.2 GTS cab...

Stuffing car seats in the back or a 993 or any 911 variant just seems desperate especially with more than one kid. RS4 vs 997 first there is price diff and the coupe vs sedan. I would buy the best RS4 out there and stop thinking about the 997 and stuffing two car seats and kids in the back. I just don't see the point.

Desperate..? No…. I have a crew cab truck and cruiser that's more appointed for the kids..but my oldest love's the 911 and I love taking him for a spin in it…The point is why would you not take your kids if they want to go and they can.To me whether it's 911 or rs4, I enjoy combining the the two things that bring me the most smiles…family and cars
