I thought this was basically impossible. Anyone know anything else about this project?

Deep pockets...I'd personally just send my engine to JHM or throw their supercharger on it

Looks as if that's his avant and he works for the dealer too--I don't have instagram so you should throw him a message...

Funny how he #audizine too--is he on here?

The conversion really isn't bad mechanically, it's the electronics that will be a pain. With JHM built engine options the RS4 engine swaps make almost zero sense unless you DIY the whole project and have an RS4 you found for next to nothing to completely gut.

He seems to be moving along pretty well with it, you can see the second ecu on the pass side cowl . I'm interested to see how it turns out.

Yeah he's a certified Audi tech, so probably got the motor for next to nothing. Since he's a tech he's got all the tools he'll ever need and likely know how in order to figure out electronics. Now I do agree swapping just the motor is kinda pointless when you got all the options to go with BHF. I feel like it's either all or nothing, meaning full conversion including body. Now that would be sweet. Nonetheless, props to him for giving this a try

Cool project for sure but this really makes zero sense to me. A few bolt ons a from JHM make the s4 motor equally as powerful has the rs. The work reward meter is no where near the reward area for me.

he hasn't moved the battery yet......so it looks like he's just shoving the second ecu down in the hole under the cabin filter

I take it back, he actually got motor from AutoHaas parting RS4. Interested to see an outcome of this swap.

I have been following this since he first posted about engine options on Facebook.. He got the engine, ecu's and trans for like $9k all in. He is an Audi tech and is doing all the work. In the real world, the parts would cost closer to $13k, and the labor another $4-5k.. Quickly getting the level of JHM built motor territory. He knows this.. At first he was touting it as a no brainier and saying he didn't get why people would go built motor over this option.. Me a few others were able to bring him back to reality in that. Still a cool build though.

We have a customer with a running B6 S4 with an RS4 engine. He had a wrecked RS4 and swapped everything over.

Well that makes sense since he swapped most of the parts, and much easier too. If I would be doing such conversion, I'd go exact same way about it. Now imagine that with your blower options, it's like B6 on roids haha

If you're an audi tech with access to an audi dealer's garage and you have a donor RS4 is the swap actually that hard?

I think this is much more feasible than most people think. Especially if you can find a wrecked but working donor RS4

No for sure.. But how many wrecked (everything but the motor and drive train) RS4's are floating around out there? This is feasible, but it's far from a no brainer swap...

Dammm this is badass!!!! Seems to be the way to go if you can find the right donor car considering all the issues with the S4 4.2 engine.

that's because he's driving the car open headers. Take the catback and downpipes off your S4 and it'll sound like NASCAR too. A few people have shot videos of them driving like that to the exhaust shop and it's stupid loud

It's only about 35 wires that need matched up between the engine harness and the body harness. It's not really that hard. The 2.7 is probably more difficult because of the mechanical and fitment issues. And many of the 2.7 swaps are half ass IMO. I spent a lot of time on mine. Tial 605 car getting broken in right now with AMD tune.

Honestly? You're the first REAL tial605 build in a B6 S4 I've heard about; everyone else has been talk so kudos to you. I remember when Clint first tried this some years back and THAT was neat...

To shed some light on this project:

Yes, its a direct drop in with the exception of a couple wires and modifying the front torque mount.

The owner of the car did not do the swap himself, he paid an Audi Certified technician to do it and then tried to take credit for the swap himself. This entire swap was done by myself, and all the pictures are in my work bay, with my tool box. It took a weekend.

This swap is not done correctly. The owners daddy purchased the $12,000 engine for him. The car still needs RS4 cooling lines, fuel pump module, and a handful of other bits to make this a proper swap (note the second ecm sits on the top of the battery with no tie downs). It was installed with a "just make it run, I don't have any money to make it right" attitude. The car is also not running an oil cooler because the owner did not want to pay for the JHM kit. The clutch on it is bad and came with the engine.

Fast foreword a month into the car "running". The engine dropped the freeze plug from the intake into the engine. #4 cylinder got chewed and has low compression. Supplier of the engine offered to replace the engine, and pay for shipping the engine to him, and the old motor back to them. The "audi certified technician" (owner) does not have the mechanical ability to remove the engine himself. He replaced the freeze plug and has been driving the car on a bad engine.

This entire "build" has ruined an otherwise rare and desirable car.

I am the owner of this car. In response to MADAUDI, He did the physical swap of the motor. But to say he did all the work is not true. He has not touched my car since it drove out of his bay. I have never claimed to be the only person to work on this car, I have always stated that I have had help, and many friends working with me on my project.

This swap was done in the spare shop at Audi of Hilton Head. Adam and Anthony work in that shop. They each had 2+ bays to them selves. I work in the main shop and only have one lift. We did the swap in one of Adams bays as I could not have my lift tied up since it was my only lift. I spent $10,000 on the whole project, not $12,000, although I am definitely not finished yet. My car DOES have an oil cooler with the JHM upgraded oil cooler lines. If you guys follow me on the B7 S4 facebook page you can see the photos I posted of the install.

Cyllinder 4 was not touched. The freeze plug got sucked into Cylinder number 8. I do not have low compression on any of my cylinders including cylinder 8. I boroscoped the cyllinder to see if there was any damage to the walls or to the head and valves. There is some scoring on the walls but nothing bad enough to cause low compression. It damaged the spark plug, but I have since replaced it and it is running perfectly.

I have not done a battery relocation yet, but that is in the works. I am still in talks with AUTOHaas about getting a new engine, but they have not located one. I am more than capable of removing and installing this engine.
The clutch is not new, but its not slipping, and the car drives perfectly fine. No sense in spending $1500 on a clutch if I don't have to yet.

I'm sorry Adam that you feel you have to put me down on the internet in front of other people. I have never claimed to be the only one working on my car

Lindw4ll Yup. Drama shouldn't be on the forums like this.... We had a falling out as friends unrelated to my car, definitely didn't expect attempted reputation degradation

I didn't want to do the swap for power alone. I wanted an RS4 avant, but they never brought them to the USA, so I decided to make one. I will do an RS4 widebody, and making it as close to an OEM RS4 Avant as I can. It's going to take some time due to the cost, but I'll get it there!!!! (And yes with the help of my friends of course!)
