Louder Capristo Exhaust System for RS5

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi guys,

I recently had a brand new capristo system fitted to my RS5 and I'm in LOVE with it! So much more than I was expecting. Absolutely amazing exhaust, stunning sound, deep burble at low revs and it screams like mad at high revs - a perfect exhaust in my opinion.

However... I do want to get it a bit louder (you all probably think I'm crazy) and after reading though thread after thread on this forum, it looks like my best bet is aftermarket non-res downpipes.

There was some discussion in this thread (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...pristo-catback) about fitting AWE Non-res downpipes in place of the existing resonated section, however from reading some of the replies it looks like this will introduce some drone. I'm really not too fussed about drone if its slight as I usually end up listening to the engine anyway rather than music (I think the AWE track extreme introduces similar drone as per the non-res downpipes) obviously I don't want to run into anything that's going to drive me absolutely insane within the first few minutes of having to deal with it.

So before I go ahead and spend $899 on downpipes... can anyone recommend any other alternatives to making this exhaust louder? Or perhaps your opinion on this AWE non-res dp + Capristo cat back combination?

I'm looking for that sort of "feel it in your chest" kind of sound...

    Thanks!

    Dan

If you don't want to go for downpipes you can delete the center box (resonator) and straightpipe it. Another member has done the same with his awe track exhaust and it's now on a different level. Another member has the awe non res dp paired with his akra exhaust and he says no drone just so you know. It sounds amazing also.

I removed the center section on my AWE kit and it is really loud outside but not bad inside. Maybe consider removing the center section.

I believe this guy removed the center section of his capristo....

remove center res ^^^ and straight-pipe it. Even with the sports exhaust, it sounds like a bomb went off when i downshift.

Thanks for all the replies guys, really appreciate it. Looks like removing the centre section + straight pipe is the way forward.

Funny you mention that video as that is what I'm trying to get a closer sound to!

Sounds gorgeous. Do you notice much drone and how much louder is it than standard Capristo? (I've learn that videos don't do exhausts much justice!)

I've contacted my local garage to see if they can remove the centre section and fit a straight pipe. If its a go then I'll post back here with clips.

Mehh. The Capristo is borderline raspy and this makes it really raspy but to each his/her own. The other issue is that the RS5 is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too slow of a car to try to sound that loud. If it were a 600hp car, yes but when it can't keep up with a chipped s3 then it needs to play down the sound and focus on what it is good at and that is looking good and sounding great. Loud isn't it. Again, just an opinion.

Yeah... police over here in the UK are REALLY cracking down on loud supercars, especially in London (where I spend a lot of my driving time) and those that break the dB law limit, so I don't want to go for anything obviously over the top that's going to get me intro trouble! Thank goodness for valve controlled systems..

So I'm currently at the garage.. The tech guys are telling me that they don't know if removing the Capristo center resonator is the best of ideas as they're telling me it's what "makes the Capristo what it is" and that if I removed it, the exhaust would sound raspy and droney and generally terrible. instead they recommend removing the two mufflers/resonators before the cats further on up front and just straight piping that.

They're not promising that this is going to make it much louder but I've told them to go ahead and see what the outcome is..

What do you guys reckon? I'll post back with results once they're done.

Just a question how long have you had the Capristo? It does change a bit after 500-1000 miles ) although I admit it sounds like you want more than some change)

    I could hear a difference.

    Good luck.

Fairly new, about 500 miles I'd say.. I was told it would get louder but bought I'd try a delete anyway as I do like a loud system

So I've just had the two resonators/mufflers (whatever they are?) removed (the ones further on past the capristo resonator)

Result: AMAZING. Very happy with it. Exhaust is super loud now with valves open, just as I wanted it. No drone! Valves closed, sounds like stock, still quiet. Absolutely incredible result.
I believe most drone is caused by the center resonator delete (which I imagine would give a similar result), removing the mufflers on the downpipes seemed to give equally what I wanted, and I don't have to worry about voiding warranty on the Capristo.

A little raspy (expected) since we have no mufflers now, but still got that great V8 sound.

Here is a picture of what I had done.

I'll try and record a vid with a decent mic at some point...

    Quick vid: https://instagram.com/p/6xudAJNz7w/?taken-by=thedcdj

@ttusqrl I believe Capristo? Never heard an Akra on an RS5 IRL so don't quote me on that, but from what I've read Capristo is louder, Akra is deeper/more like a more refined sports exhaust.

Capristo is super deep sounding. It has no x-pipe, right?

Here is what my AWE track with the center muffler removed sounds like. I still have the downpipe section you removed on there car. AWE has an X-pipe which I think makes it higher pitched.

Correct - this setup basically did just end up with non-res downpipes, resonator + the full capristo system.

    This sounds great!

I've been debating various alterations to my capristo also. But it sounds so amazing as-is and when it "broke in" I was over-the-moon.

I'd LOVE to hear the DCDJ modified capristo in all the different conditions (valves open, closed, accelerating, shifting).

Cheers patmusk - Funny you say that as I'm planning to shoot a video of some valve controlled conditions, acceleration, shifting and some tunnel runs with the capristo. Just waiting for the weather over here in the UK to improve a little. Dan,

I'm confused (sorry to keep bothering you ). According to the thread here, you removed the resonators as shown above and left the center capristo section in place. But according to this video, you took out the centre section.

I'm assuming you did BOTH (center capristo res delete/x-pipe + downpipe res delete/straight-pipe). Can you please confirm? Also - do you have any pics of the final system while the car was lifted?

Thanks for sharing. Car sounds ridiculous.

@patmusk - Right, so I actually filmed that video after a SECOND modification to the exhaust system which I haven't gone into detail on here.

I bought full Capristo, it wasn't loud enough. For the first modification, I had the secondary resonators removed and straight piped (not the single big Capristo resonator, at this point that still exists) and it got louder. Then I wanted to be a bastard and make it even LOUDER. Obvious decision was to remove the Capristo resonator as well, however I didn't want to lose the Capristo quality/sound so I had Capristo refer me to a custom Staineless Steel X-PIPE to replace the Capristo resonator (little pricey), which is now what my exhaust system looks like. Originally I straight piped the main resonator but it sounded seriously raw. You can probably just do that if its volume you're looking for.

So the final product is original Capristo mufflers, then an X Pipe, then straight pipe on the secondary resonators. Car sounds beautiful. I'll try and get a pic if I can, getting some H&R springs fitted soon so car should be up on the rack again at some point.
