So I started getting this code.

008567 - Bank 1; System Too Lean off Idle
    P2177 - 001 - - MIL ON
    Freeze Frame:
    Fault Status: 11100001
    Fault Priority: 2
    Fault Frequency: 1
    Mileage: 133581 km
    Time Indication: 0

    Freeze Frame:
    RPM: 2124 /min
    Load: 33.3 %
    Speed: 79.0 km/h
    Temperature: 95.0°C
    Temperature: 45.0°C
    Absolute Pres.: 990.0 mbar
    Voltage: 13.589 V

    replaced the PCV
    replaced the DV

The car feels like its in limp mode when this code pops up. When I clear the code, the car drives perfect, but the code pops back up within 1-2hours of driving

I took the car to the dealer. They checked for boost and vacuum leaks, etc. They replaced the air filter and said to come back for more diagnosis if that doesnt fix it. Well, it didnt fix it

They did mention that the next step in the diagnosis process was going to be removing the valve cover for inspection

I did a lot of searching about this code and issue and it seems like many have had this problem. However, most of the threads are really old without updates posted or solutions

To me, it feels like a vacuum leak somewhere, I guess it could make sense that the valve cover has internal cracks

without blindly throwing parts at this, does anyone have any input, or previous experience with this?

Could be maf, fuel injectors, fuel pump:
    http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index...9/P2177/008567

Or a leak...do you know an indy mechanic that could do a smoke test to check for leaks?

I took the car to my mechanic before going to the dealer. He did a smoke test, as did the dealer.

Both checked the output of the MAF and fuel pump via vag-com scan tools. Both are apparently good

Fuel injectors is a good question. I guess it could be.

swapped the MAF with a friend for a couple hours. No change

Changed the spark plugs with brand new OEM ones. It looks like the valve cover is leaking around the spark plug holes. Looks like the valve cover gasket will need to be changed

    Still no change however.

At this point Im thinking to change the valve cover and gasket. Any other ideas?

    another update

Determined valve cover gasket was leaking around spark plug holes

replaced the valve cover and gasket
    replaced fuel filter
    replaced cam follower

car immediately drove really well, very smooth, boost felt like it came on around 2000rpm, instead of around 2800 as before

however, after driving for a day....the lean idle code is back

    Could this be the HPFP?

Apparently my fuel trim prior to changing the valve cover gasket was 22, and 15 after

even the tech is pulling his hair here

Hey guys I know this is an old thread but I figured I’ll give you my input. I was having the same exact issue in my case the plug to the fuel sensor was rusty and dirty. I bought a can of electronic cleaner at autozone sprayed down the plug and the sensor as well and problem fixed. My check engine has not come back on at all and car I running great again

Which fuel sensor did you clean? the one at the fuel rail or the one at the fuel tank? I have a B8 and I'm aware that this was for a B7.

That's pretty lucky. I've had the same code for 4 months now. Driving me and the mechanic insane. I've taken my car back home now bc I simply can't afford labor anymore. I'll check the contacts. This is on the G247 sensor right??
