When it's getting that significant of a power bump, why aren't they just calling it RS8 instead of S8 Plus?

I think it probably has to do with not being produced in the renn sport factory and also I think RS8 is a bit of a marketing contradiction hhahhaha

The TTRS and RS3 aren't built at the quattro plant either. quattro still did the R&D for those cars though.

    Nor is the RS5.

The A8 I had for a day and 200 miles was all around sumptuous, a silent 600hp would be very scary!

The difference between an RS and a S isn't just a bump in engine power. It involves tuning the transmission to a) not have it upshift automatically at redline in manual mode and b) to tune it for performance rather than comfort. Basically, an RS8 would have the transmission from the RS7. Then befitting an RS, the DRC sport suspension would be an option, so the car can be made to handle in the corners and not be a floaty boat like the S6/7, RS6/7 w/ air suspension and the S8/Plus. We in North America got screwed with the RS5 and the DRC due to stupid crash requirements that required a rear crash zone redesign that didn't leave any room for the central valves, but all longitudinal platform RS models can optionally be had with the DRC suspension in the ROW. Also, RS vehicles usually get redesigned aerodynamics treatment to increase downforce and reduce unwanted lift at the rear as well as extra cooling for the transmission etc, so they can be driven at the limit for extended periods w/o overheating and an oil sump design that minimizes oil starvation in hard corners.

While I do agree with you, Ive always liked the Dual clutch more than the RS7 Tranny. When i test drove it, that was the one thing i had wish they had done differently. RS7 with a dual clutch would have been a dream come true.

This is where audi's design language actually hurt its luxury boats. Between the new 7-series (which honestly looks pretty good) and the reigning king in this segment, the S-class, i see the S8 quietly slide in to third place. That amount of angry ponies under sheep's clothing is not going to help sales unless they can differentiate their top-of-the-line cruisers from the A/S6s.

I don't know, like Okan said, it looks great. I stare every time I see one. Sitting in one is also pretty awesome, I love the cabin.

Im going to have to disagree with you here. We (my family) had the first new a8 when it came out and to say I instantley fell in love with it was an understatement. The cabin is spacious to say the least, the drive is supurb, and when you wanna have a bit of fun (in straight lines) the thing is an absolute bull.

I see wayyyyy too many S classes in NY and frankly, the new one, especially the coupe which may be the ugliest shark thing ive ever seen, doesnt do much for me. I am yet to see the new 750 in person so ill hold back my opinion until then.

In fact, every time I see an 8, a tiny bit of my neck breaks. They are so clean, so luxurious, and so refined.

I remember one of the first weeks with the car, My mother and I were on a long road trip and she wanted to take the wheel for a bit. My mother, who is a terrible anxiety ridden diver, was cruising at 110 completely unaware as the ride was just too damn smooth. I was sitting in the passenger seat cracking up and holding my tounge as i knew she would slam on the brakes if she realized. she then slowed down to about 65, the speeed limit, and right before driving past a cop, accidentally reactivated the cruise control which was set at 90 hahahahah. The car gunned it right by the cop, and the cop didnt do shit because its the sleeper of all sleepers. Great times with that car.

Unfortunately the car didnt last very long as Hurricane Sandy got the best of it.

but than again, maybe im just a bit Audi bias hahahahhaha

Completely agree. Unfortunately, they don't have an S-tronic that can handle the RS7 and S8 torque.

I think if I was in the market for something along these lines, I'd go with the new CTS-V. More power and better all around performance. Top Gear, who hate anything American, even say it's better than the German competition. http://www.topgear.com/car-reviews/c...to/first-drive

Not to mention if I was looking to step up to an RS5, I'd probably get an ATS-V instead. Loads of features Audi doesn't (won't?) offer like a manual transmission (with no-lift shift!), HUD, track recorder and tons of performance info, not to mention much nicer performance seats than in anything Audi makes. The RS7's seats might look nicer, but I'd take those Recaro seats any day. http://www.cadillac.com/v-series/ats-v-coupe.html

Cadillac has really stepped up their game. I hope this pushes the German 3 to do the same. Of course we'll see how these new Caddys do for reliability.

They look and sound great but do they have AWD? It's a must for us in the NE...

Don't worry. Some DB will take it to a track for some odd reason and post how he hanged with 991gt3 rs' and only lost a few car lengths in the turns and "how impressed he/she was with the way it handled despite it's weight!"
