Nope not me. One of my favorite aspects of the B7 RS4 is the V8.

I think it's funny that this article came out after the head of quattro GmbH just suggested we may get a hatch or avant a few weeks ago. While still technically a sedan (and good with me!), it seems more likely that we could get the RS4 as a Sportback model (and thus badged as an RS5).

From head of quattro GmbH a few weeks back...

“Europe is becoming a less important market, the U.S.A. and China are where we see growth happening,” said Heinz Hollerweger, head of Audi’s Quattro GmbH. “The U.S. is changing, and there is more demand there [for wagons], so maybe that will change,” said Hollerweger, when asked if the RS4 Avant would come to North America.

“The potential in China and the U.S. for RS models is getting us thinking about body styles that may work there—maybe a hatchback, like the RS7,” said Hollerweger, dashing the idea that an RS4 sedan would ever happen. It’s possible that the car will be badged as the RS5 Sportback if it does make the trip to North America.

I loved to keep the new RS4 in its V8 form.
What kind of powertrain is it rumored to come with?
Any rendering of what the car may look like?

The B9 S4 won't arrive until MY '17 so don't even think about an RS4 until MY '18 at the very earliest. Jalopnik's suggestion that we'll see it in 2016 is laughable.

As for whether I'd want one...not a chance. Big car with a six-cylinder & automatic transmission? No thanks. Does nothing for me.

    Twin turbo V6 with 450-480hp + DSG.

Here are a couple of renders.

Lack of a V8 rules it out for me.

Silly thing in the UK it that from April 2017 all cars with >0g/km CO2 will pay the same road tax of Ģ140 per year - so there's no longer any incentive to buy a lower emissions car. Which makes the TT V6 a silly choice, a TT V8 would have been much better - and Audi already have one...

BTW some articles attribute to Audi a quote that the smaller turbo will be an electric one (which Audi are known to have been developing).

Seems cool but not compelling enough for me. I really enjoy the V8 and third pedal.

100% agreed. DSG kills it for me. Do not care if it's faster around a circuit. I was surprised the B9 A4 still offers MT, but I can't imagine it will be offered on RS4 after the R8, RS3, etc. went DSG-only.

The B8 RS4 is Avant only and DSG only - so even if there is a B9 RS4 Sedan (which is unlikely, but there are rumours that the B9 RS4 Avant may be coming Stateside) my bet is that it will be DSG only.

To be honest, if it doesn't have flared fenders and it has a V6, I'd rather get an F80 M3. At least it has a 6-speed.

Guys, 6MT is dead. It will not be available with any RS model going forward. I love 6MT myself, but that's what your B7 RS is for.

Then it's time someone started a campaign to bring back MT (5MT, 6MT or 7MT) - DSG (or any automated box) just doesn't "involve" the driver in the same way.

DSG is for people who just want to get from A to B, MT is for drivers who take the longest route from A to B so they can enjoy the journey too.

I think it's too late, unfortunately. I'm very sad to see the manual evaporating from current offerings. But alas, the market has spoken...

I will say regarding your second comment; I know many purists (all who own drivers cars like 997.2RS, RS 4.0, Carrera GT, manual LP670SV, etc...) who have come to love the DSGs. Not a replacement for the involvement of a 6MT by any means, but pretty dang incredible transmissions that can still be enjoyed by us purists and certainly not only people who want to go from A --> B

I've driven several DSG-type vehicles and IMHO frankly they've all lacked that last 1% that takes them from being a good car to a great one.

If all my driving was urban commuting then I'd have a DSG no question (and love it in that environment), but for my "weekend" or "fun" car then it has to be MT if I'm going to love it. Which I guess means that my B7 RS4 is going to be the last weekend car I'll ever love...

A lot of RS4 purists who want the V8 and manual should look hard into the Mustang GT fully loaded out. I went to Ford this weekend and I am duly impressed. That car shouldnt be called a Mustang. Its too good. With Recaros and Brembos plus 401(a) package. Really good.

I talked my girlfriend into leasing a new mustang GT when her current lease is up. They are really nice cars. Hell of a lot cheaper than a new rs4 too.

    MT: street
    DCT: track

I would much rather work an MT for day to day driving on public roads at under 7/10.

But DCT is just plain faster and safer on the track. It allows "us purists" with sub-Senna skill levels to maximize our limited bandwidth so we can stay focused and nail those apexes more often.

I think that's a hard sell to get any RS4 owner to go American.

However, the GT350 would be the one to get. That engine is very similar to the RS4's and as "European" a V8 as you will find in America. 8,250 RPM redline? Yes please.

They need to bring back the wide hips like in the b5 and b7 rs models. The latest widebody cars from Audi have been a joke.

Here is the OEM B8 RS4 widebody on a US sedan... It still looks pretty wide (or seems so to me). Although, they are the boxed-style flares; I definitely prefer the more "round" flares on the previous B5/B7/C5 RS models.

American automobile fit and finish is improving, but there's still a clear difference between German and American car quality. Unfortunately German car interiors seem to be getting cheaper, so perhaps in the future there won't be a big difference.

I'm sure it'll be a fantastic car but the combination of a V8 and manual transmission was 90% of the reason I bought my RS4 - the other 10% being AWD. Just wish they'd offered it in wagon trim for the USDM. I almost bought a CTS-V wagon. Seems like crazy talk now that I look back but there's something wickedly stealth about a really fast wagon.

I've been eyeing the Merc E63 wagon for some time. It has insane amounts of power, sounds great, and in satin silver it looks amazing:

It also has a dual-clutch, but that's a big step up for a Merc, which traditionally only ever had torque converter autos.

Sorry this is going a little OT but...

I love the design of the Audi interiors so far but the durability in the RS interiors absolutely sucks. You can't clean it with anything but water...the paint flecks from the window controls...the buttons melt from the sun...the headliners droop...glove box breaks. There are a lot of reasons I bought the RS4 and I really enjoy driving the car but durability, build quality of mechanical design surely weren't on the list...and good thing because I've done more maintenance on this car in the first 6 months of owning it and I did to my last 6 cars combined (2 Mustangs, an F150, Toyota Tacoma and 2 Mazdas).

Who wants the new RS4 in 2016?

I like that Mercedes wagon too. If I remember right, they ran a commercial with a soccer mom racing to a hair appointment and, at one point, she's suddenly wearing a racing helmet plowing that behemoth around a track. Somewhat terrifying actually considering that think pushes out nearly 600hp.

An RS SUV or EV is just wrong - full on hybrid like the La Ferrari hell yes but pure EV no.

    Sorry just my $0.02 worth.

Hmm, I've had an entirely different experience, so maybe it's just luck of the draw. Every car I've owned has been German, and the interiors looked largely the same the entire time I owned them. Any American car I've ridden in, rented, or my parents owned seemed to start falling apart after a few years (plastics break, peel, creak; seat leather is stiff and wrinkled; etc.). Plus, when new, German cars just feel higher quality. As they should, because German engineers are a lot more anal, and they cost more. :)

Of course, it could also be because I'm OCD, and other people aren't, so I have an incorrect bias towards cars I've owned being higher quality. ;)

Bingo. Would I buy another RS or an Audi for that matter? Not likely. My RS4 was the only one my local dealership sold, and they loved the fact that they got to see it quite frequently after I drove it off the lot. It was my 8th car and it was in the shop more than all my others cars combined. Not to mention the valve cleaning I did myself every 10k miles. I come back to this forum just to see how much crap RS4 owners put up with just to drive a car with a nice rear end. I'll wait for a Focus RS or Mazdaspeed3 (should have AWD) thank you very much.
08 Avus RS4 Ti (gone a long time ago...sick of wrenching on it)
silverSpeed Intake (stopped that too...tendonitis in the ol' elbow)

Hey don't doubt the EV. Tesla is about to release Model S's that do 0-60 in under 3 seconds. Solidly beating the pants off of any RS model to date, even the 7. If Audi could build a litte hyper hatch EV RS3, that would be bonkers.
