Asking 2013-2015 Q7 TDI owners - What's the most expensive repair you've had?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm trying to decide whether extended warranty is really necessary and ultimately worth the cost. I have another post about this but I figured I'd ask the question a different way...

What's the most expensive repair you've had?
I'd like to hear from 2013-2015 Q7 TDI owners specifically since mine is a 2014 TDI, but others can reply too.

Anyone yet to replace their diesel engine? yikes lol

    major diesel engine repairs?

Any diesel owners with timing chain issues? I think I've heard mine clank a bit when starting from cold. only lasts a split second, likely until oil pressure builds.

    transmissions or torque converter issues?

    Differential issues?

I'm not too concerned about suspension issues, power windows and other similar stuff... just the really expensive holly crap I can't believe my 80K vehicle needs a new XXX

Thanks everyone. need to deal with this ASAP as my SUV is almost out of normal warranty.

Hello, I have a 2014 3.0 TDI as well. I'm in the UK ( Not sure about you) and no matter what audi sales may claim, the spec for their cars and the common issues too cary region to region.

I have had 3 Q7's so far- '09,'11 and '14 which is my current one. I have not had any major issues at all. I also have a good circle of friends all running 13-15 plate Q7's they're all TDI's (as are about 99% of UK Q7's! None of them either have experienced any eye-popping faults. My biggest problem was an abs system relay failure. It didn't render the car inoperable. It simply meant the car was only driveable in dynamic suspension setting. I've also had a bug in my mmi. That's about it!

To be fair, the build quality for the Q7 has only gotten better as it has aged (as is to be expected).

My answer to your question would be guided by whether your car is financed/leased or paid outright? i.e. Are you going to keep it for a good length of time?or will you be trading it in soon? If you're going to keep it for another 2 or 3 yrs, then yes, get the warranty. Better safe than sorry, coz they German buggers ain't half expensive to fix. But, if you'll be moving it along soon, then I would bother. Save that money for the deposit on your next car!

Thanks for you reply and input. I'm Canadian...eh.

I went ahead today and purchased the extended warranty so now I'm completely covered up to 160,000KM.

I searched the web, this forum and others forums and honestly couldn't find very many owners complaining about "major issues".

Ultimately, I decided to still purchased it because I was given a reduced price, feedback from a local indy shop that specializes in VW/Audi products, my plans to own it for a very long time (10yrs likely) and worst case if it starts failing, I figured it would be easier and more valuable to sell it with a warranty.

I do have up to 60 days to cancel the agreement and get a complete refund.

Also, if you don't make any claims during the extended warranty period, they give you $2000 credit towards another purchase or $1000 back in cash. I also own a 2008 A4, I'll be due for sure for a new car at the end of this warranty so the 2K credit will be used.

If it wasn't for the two intermittent issues I'm experiencing now, I likely wouldn't be thinking of an extended warranty since it's been pretty much perfect so far.

Glad to hear you've had such good luck with your vehicles! Hopefully that remains the case for you and other Q7 owners.

    Cheers

Most expensive TDI repair so far? Hmmm...other than bumper light being cracked from my wife backing up into a telephone pole? Or the other incident where she nicked a parked car?....guess that's pretty standard for any engine type...

I have a '09 TDI with 120,000 miles. I had all service done at the local dealer since the day of purchase. Ever since I hit 115k on the odometer, it has spent more time in the shop than on the road. Oxygen sensor, Mass Airflow Sensor, door handles draining the battery, new battery, and now a power steering fluid leak. I absolutely LOVE the car which is why I have dumped more money into it for the repairs, but I am shocked that so much has gone to pot so quickly after turning 100k on the odometer, especially since the car was maintained to Audi specs every step of the way.

I've had my 2015 Q7 TDI for 4 mos now and 4500km on it already. I get squeaking on my breaks. Had them checked at the dealer (under warranty) and was told it was moisture and was told not be gentle on the breaks. They told me that the Q7 is a high performance vehicle and I should do some aggressive braking. So, had it back for 3 days with aggressive braking (safely of course) and even tho the squeaking lessened, I still hear it. Are you guys experiencing the same?

Same issue with mine...dealer told me almost exactly the same thing. We pulled the pads, used a scotch-brite on them and the rotors to knock off the glaze and it has went away for now.

2014 TDI and break squeak is horrendous. Sometimes it goes away and as you note, it's much better when breaking hard. Bothers the hell out of my wife. Having heard so many stories about this I haven't wasted my time taking it to the dealer. Oddly enough it started for me after my 5k tune up. Hadn't heard a peep before bringing it back from the dealer that day. I'm now at 10k and will ask at my 15k to see if anything can be done, but I'm guessing no. You're not alone!

I have a 2011 TDI. The issues I have experiences is a bad battery and I have it in the shop for it's SECOND power steering rack replacement. First was replaced and covered 80% by Audi Canada because I was 11000km outside warranty and it should have never failed that early. It has failed again and Audi Canada will only cover about 40% of the bill because the Parts and Labour warranty expired 2000 KM ago.

I currently await Audi Canada's response for their shoddy parts and possibly labour.
