    S3 spring rates / replacements

Like everyone I want to lower the car a little but I don't really want to adjust the ride quality, the roads we have in Michigan are horrible as many people know and I am tired of suspension / wheel problems from previous cars. I purchased the magnetic ride so I could even go a little softer if needed. So I am looking to lower the car about an inch but to try and keep the same spring rates as today. I read the stock Golf R is 195 lbs/in, Rear - 245 lbs/in does anyone know if that is the same in the S3?

then for options of what comes close to that

Neuspeed 260 front / 290 rear from what I see
H&R Sport & H&R super sport?- I cannot find the info anywhere of what the H&R's are

Ideally the super sports lower the car exactly where I want but I am going to guess that they rate much higher than the stock ones and its going to be rough on the crap roads here.

anyone have any ideas on how to achieve this dream :)

I've noticed that so many here are quick to get springs on a brand new car without giving time to let the stock springs settle in. I don't have the link to the thread, but there was one guy who has the 19" mag ride, and noted how the ride height looks perfect with the stock springs, once they're settled in.

    Just an observation.

OP wants to lower 1 inch. Stock springs WILL NOT settle 1 inch. Not even close. at best 1/8th of an inch, for normal use with average size people. My stock springs never settled after 3 months, and my H&R SS springs are exactly the same height as it was several months ago.

I got the H&R Sport springs (not super sport). Perfect drop for me. It looks "aggressive stock" versus "racer boy slammed". However, on the freeways cruising I noticed a wavy bouncing sensation with the car sometimes. So after a recommendation I purchased Bilstein rear sport struts and the car feels more planted. Perfect! An economical solution to coilovers, etc.

I read somewhere the euro spec h&r sports for mag ride did drop the car an inch vs the .75 us spec, haven't been able to positively confirm that though

Best you can hope to get on the stock springs below. Any set takes 5-10K miles to fully settle, and after 5K (and now 8K) I noticed a difference in height compared to when I drove the car off the lot for sure. Personal preference, that's as low as I'd like to go. The spring rate is also stiff enough stock, don't think I could handle any more than that without rattling my teeth out in Dynamic ;)

That looks pretty good, i would like probably another 1/2 in the front but i can live with that. Hmm maybe i will just slap wheel spacers on there and wait and see.

Thank you for the reference and link. If I can get the ride of the sports with the look of the Supersports, win - win.

Orange site also shows a rear adjustable sway bar. I haven't seen a rear adjustable bar yet for our cars.
