Wanted to share my experience with bringing my navigation up to date. Checked with 2 dealerships & was quoted more than $500 at each one. I had seen a thread here & after reading other peoples posts reached out to Philip0001. Not being too computer savoy I was concerned with doing it myself. He made the MMI update & then the map update very simple. It is a pleasure having current maps at a fraction of the cost it would have been at the dealer. I read Audizine on a daily basis & learn tricks, tips etc. from this sight. I thought I'd give back a little with a positive review of the update & give options to people having current maps & not feeling like you've being ripped off.

I have a question: am I allowed at least to provide / assist with solution to change MMI 3G Welcome/Splashcreen to any custom one members like - WITHOUT any gain - FREE OF Charge?
Because in PM you wrote that "...I did see also today that you were posting to PM you directly about taking care of MMI updates and splash screens which is also against the rules"..
Splashscreen change is also against the rules?? What MMI mod is NOT against the rules when?
Please clarify for all of us here.

You can do the splash screen changes at no charge, but you had several posts where you said, "I can do this cheaper than the dealership, PM me for info." That is advertising a service which you are not an advertiser for.

I don't mind paying up to $200 for the disc and update at the dealer but the rest of the $500 cost is for labor and that is just stupid. I shouldn't have to pay for the time they sit and wait for it to load. It's time management...go work on another customers car while it updates.

I completely agree with that, which is why most of us would rather do this ourselves. We should have the option of buying the part and sitting there waiting, ourselves if we wish. Nobody pays an attorney to work on two different clients at the same time, paying his full hourly rate. That's completely illegal. I will bet my left NUT that they don't sit there in the car waiting for this sh_t to load and work on someone else's car....

Have to chime in here and say that Phil hooked me up when my dealer wouldn't. Give him props for helping a fellow Audi guy. He was super helpful and even gave me assistance when I had triggered a fault code. Highly recommend him!

Actually...what Philip is doing is not illegal. He's not necessarily taking payment for the maps, he's taking payment for providing a service (the help to install it). Navteq maps aren't under strict IP, so they can be freely given to anyone you know, as long as you're not taking payment for the maps themselves. The software that *utilizes* the maps cannot be distributed, but the maps themselves can. That's because of a deal to allow Navteq to use them at all (since they're really just provided from a conglomeration of business and corporations that create them).

Of course, AZ is free to decide they don't want to allow certain things...but according to the rules in place Philip has done nothing wrong.

It is too bad AUDI uses its present system. For updates . My business partner bought a used Cadillac SX suv. I told him to make sure the Nav in this 2012 was updated for no charge. Dealer told him nav is updated automatically. I did not ask how

2015/2016 map update is in the ETKA catalogue already for a while, but dealers do not have it yet. And they also lack the ability to activate it with VAS at this stage. FYI the screenshot from Catalogue:

Would be nice to get a firmware upgrade if it exists.

Currently the map update solution is available for MMI 3G HIGH Hard Drive based navigation units as were installed on next models and production years:

A4/S4 2010 - 2012
A5/S5 2010 - 2012
A6/S6 2010 - 2012
Q5 2010 - 2013
Q7 2010 - 2011

Not at this stage. MMi 3G+ requires customized MMI software for allowing new navigation map database to run on it... (Navigation database itself is exactly the same for both 3G and 3G+...)

At his stage I can only help with latest software update (K0814) for MMI 3G+ owners...

Be grateful you're not in Canada, just got a quote for $250 for the maps and $450 for labour (for some guy to have a nice long coffee break, and push next every once in a while), that's over $700 Canadian....good grief, can't wait for the next MMI in the B9 that has google maps baked in and supposedly updates automatically like the Cadillac someone here mentioned. I'm wondering if its just cheaper to find a new MMI from a 2016 and swap it out with the map update included!!!!!!!

Software update is separate. Navi Database is separate. Separate procedures. Separate part numbers.
Meaning you can update software of your MMI without a need to update map database. On the other hand you MUST update software of MMI in order to be able to load latest map databases...

You have 2010 year soft (P0110) and map database (5.3.4)

Latest software update for MMI 3G is K0133.

Just FYI about letters in soft version and their meaning:
P= Production Version - from Factory.
K= KUSTOM version, ("Custom" in German): Upgrade version - Version that dealer can upgrade your MMI to (if they feel like it and you pay for it of course - or you complain a lot... )

I may assume its opposite because based on catalogue the price of update is CAD 370 + TAX and dealer charges (Delaer charge from 1.5 to 3 hours labor - update is really taking 3 hours to load in MMI...) at CAD155 + TAX.. So 370 + 232 (1.5 minimum) = 602 + TAX (13%?) = CAD 680... But anyway its very pricey.

But you might be surprised how the prices vary between dealers and provinces/states:
it can be ranging from 500 to 900 (!) and to "NO updates available for your car" and even "why update maps and pay? Lets just arrange you a new lease - it has updated maps inside! "

Regarding Cadillac (or any other brand). Every brand is making money. No updates are free and how they can be automatic? over the internet? Hotspot in the navigation? and who pays for data traffic??

FYI: Check link below: any Cadillac/Buick/Chevy/GMC 2013-2015 is not "automatic free update" - it has a cost (not crazy like AUDI but still):

And regarding the swap MMI? I'm sure it will be PITA... MMI too much interconnected to everthing - even new AUDI graphic cluster...

Curious of what was changed software-wise between 2010 and 2015. Maybe the Nav screen will display the current road I'm on when not in route guidance? Maybe the "shuffle" setting won't reset itself every time I start the car? Maybe the media mode won't randomly forget which song it played last? That stuff would be nice.

Assuming you have 2014 year - you have P0715 version. I do not have Release Notes but here below one customers observations:

"I've noticed it is a lot quicker to boot and jump to different functions. One example is it now will show a song playing (the track running time) via Bluetooth whereas it didn't before..."
