    Allroad towing

I know it isn't a vehicle for towing. However, we are thinking about getting some kayaks and/or a PWC. The PWC is about 1000lbs empty including the trailer.

Has anyone towed with the Allroad? Positive or negative experiences?

I believe the tow rating is 1500, so you should be good to go.

If you do end up towing, please post some pics! I think that's awesome.

I would say you are more than safe.

There is a badass Allroad owner across the pond that tows. Check out his IG:

I have a feeling you didn't sense the sarcasm there..

It looks like he wrapped his fenders, lower bumper, rockers, and the lower section of his door. IMO it looks pretty nice.

You will be fine. I have towed box utility trailers with over 1500 lbs with no problem. The Curt style hitch is rated at 2,000 lbs and the Westphalia Euro hitch at over 4,000. Both have tongue loads of 200 lbs.

The allroad tows like a champ. Use it to tow my open trailer with my bike on it to tracks.

Which hitch are you guys using? I've had my eye on the Curt 11195 at $150. I want to get a Space Trailer for trips to add a bit more cargo space.

Any pics of it installed? I'm curious how much it hangs down, and don't want to cut my rear valence. I'm pretty low, so I'm sure it'll take a beating on steep driveways. How did you wire taillights?

if you are lowered, this may not work for you. Got the PWM from etrailer, but wasn't a plug and play install despite what the website says. Had to get creative to make all lights function. Trying to remember the details(it was 2 years ago).. had to pin out the right rear tail light connector and went from there. The Curt PWM is missing either an input or output. It should work fine for the 2012 Avant though.

Edit: don't have to cut the valance, only the heat shield for the mufflers to uncover one of the mounting bolt holes. Just checked their website, it says Updated PWM. It should work.

Hmm, I might not be too low for that. I wish it could be hidden when not in use though.

I believe the B8 allroad is rated at over 4,000lbs with the proper hitch in Europe.

    1,000lbs is nothing.

You can get a hidden hitch by Westfalia but it's more expensive. I replaced my Curt when I changed my valence. I needed to re spray it every year due to unsightly rust from the salt up here. I ordered mine from PF Jones in the UK. It would be about 265 Pounds Sterling delivered to SD. If you Google EuroHitches you can find a US supplier also, for about $650. It has a removable bar and is completely hidden. You do need to notch the valence, but that too is hidden.
