    Plasti Dipping OEM Wheels Black

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

I'm looking at plasti-dipping my 19" OEM wheels - was wondering if anyone has any pictures of their black S4 with black wheels so I can make sure I like the look?

Has anyone had any negative experiences with plasti-dip?

Any tips for a first timer?

Never done rims. No negative experience here. Just take the time to prep the rims properly. Don't rush the process. Start with thin coats and work your way up from there. Don't spray so much that it runs. All you need is light to medium coats. Also, make sure you rotate the wheels so you get in all the little nooks and crannies.

this is an awful angle but one of the sunniest shots i have found. theres more brakedust than dip.
personally, i think the black dip looks terrible on the peelers. but id rather have the dip on than stock.

tips? take your time and buy 2 extra cans (6 total), make sure your spray surface is clean. ill look for better pics.

I saw they now have a gun metal finish also, here is a shot of mines(painted) but that gives you an idea if you're not sure of your color choice yet!

    Cheers!

How are they painted? Is it powder coated? That's the exact color I want to make my peelers.

It's just regular paint that have been applied by a local wheel repair / paint shop around here. I could ask them the exact color code of the paint if you want.

I would look towards AutoDip, never used it... But it looks like a much better product, with a great range of color options. I have used plastidip, it ends up looking dull and ugly as time goes on....

If you had trouble removing it, you didn't apply it correctly. Not using enough coats is certainly going to lead to difficult removal.. however correctly applied and it's going to peel off in large pieces with minimal effort.

This! I applied it to my '09 Audi and when it came to take it off, it peeled right off with hardly any residue! I used 4-5 coats and applied as shown on DipYourCar YouTube videos - you can't go wrong!

    FYI
There was a thread or post a few months ago where someone posted a picture of his tires after taking off the dip, and it had stained the original finish. So if you do dip the wheels, keep in mind you may not be able to go back to that pristine stock. (to be honest though, his stained wheels looked pretty cool - sort of an orange or copper tint if i remember correctly)

disclaimer: I'm no expert, haven't done it myself. Just a lurker that reads the forum too much at work :)
