Question Pitted, not hazed, headlight restore

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
What level of 3M headlight restore kit, or 3M-like kit, would be good to reduce or remove the pitting in my headlight lenses? I plan on using the WeatherTech LampGards after I am done to protect the lenses after I'm all done. I used them on my ecodes on my B5 and they were phenomenal. A bit pricey, but even after six brutal years, they looks perfect.

    I want to know too!

Mine are pitted and the light is beginning to defract when it hits the lens!

Any "kit" won't do you much good with removing pitting. The only option is to wet sand, probably start with 320 grit and work your way up to around 2000, and then use a kit to finish things off. To remove pitting you'll need to remove quite a bit of material, so a simple polish won't do much good.

you can buy halogens and swap the lenses if you are truly anal.

But, I'd wet sand and polish, then put a UV protectant on them.

    this is a good watch

So this is the kind of job you'd want to do once and make sure they have an additional layer of shielding (like the LampGards) on them to keep it from happening again.

I'd suggest just replacing them. Sanding down the lenses will remove the protective coating and they'll start to cloud up; any "repair" like that is a temporary measure at best. Buy a set of ecodes, swap the computers and bulbs, and sell your pitted OE set. It'll be a good budget option for someone doing an HID conversion.

If I sand mine, I'll add Lamin-X or something similar.
