Red face Be careful with your CV axles (tone ring, wheel sensor)

So i did my front end with all new control arms TRE, etc...a month ago
After which my abs light was on/off intermittently

Some time passed, abs light ended up staying on.
    then
I started getting a slight squeak. was definitely connected to braking as it would go away when i hit the brakes, but it was unusual.
Ive had brake squeal before, but this was just different.

I assumed i had 2 separate issues and proceeded to test the resistance on the sensor...zero reading....definitely needed to replace the wheel sensor.

In the mean time i assumed it was my brakes squealing so i reconditioned them.
    slides, rotors, pads...brakes are perfect...

squeak went away ish.....then came back..

I started suspecting the sensor was somehow causing the squeak.

I had attempted to remove the sensor when i was reconditioning the brakes but it was seized as seems to be very common.
Finally had time today to pull the cv axle.

Well..I had one only one issue.

Sensor had got pushed into the tone ring.
Looks like the tone ring ripped into the sensor until it made it to the copper wire
then the tone ring disconnected from the cv and froze in the hub.

So the intermittent abs light was while the tone ring was grinding away at the sensor
then the solid abs light accompanied by the "brake" squeal was the tone ring seized in the hub and spinning on the outside of CV

So i ended up getting a new CV axle just because the tone ring fell off. Sucks but i needed this done today and its just not worth trying to fit a new tone ring over a worn cv housing

All back together, no abs light, no squeak or squeal.

Careful with your CV axles when prying them out of the hub with minimal components removed

BTW i got an $8 sensor from ebay. Actually bough a few just in case...I have no idea how these are sold so cheap?? Doesnt it cost anything to make and ship from china? Wow....
Seems to work fine. We shall see....

I mean even the autozone sensors are $85.

Ebay ABS sensor are a great deal. Been using them for years. And I also keep a couple for spares.

There are a lot of Ebay things I wont waste money on, but ABS sensors are very simple. Considering OE costs over $100, I felt it was worth the risk. And they work!

I've also had great luck with the Ebay ABS sensors. I think I paid $11 for mine, and bought a couple. Even if hypothetically they were to go bad (not that I've had any issues) you'd have to go through a LOT of them before it becomes worth it to buy OEM.

I've replaced basically all of mine with Chinese cheapies over the years, oldest being about 4 years ago. Never had a single issue.
