    TTV Flywheel Question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
We are in the middle of adding a TTV light weight flywheel to a 2.7T B7.

The OEM pilot bearing will not fit into the flywheel.

Does it need to be pressed in and how deep should it sit into the flywheel? It will not go in by hand and seems like a very tight fit.

This is press fit on any B5 FW... flush with front of FW face.

Put pilot bearing into a freezer (inside a zip lock bag). 1h later start heating up the FW with heat gun as hot as you can. Tap the bearing with a suitably sized socket as a driver in. You shouldn't need a lot of force, I didn't. Done.

Mine needed quite a bit of force. I think I just knocked it in with a socket after putting it in the freezer for a bit.

You need to press it in and a puller to remove most pilot bearings. Do not blast shit you're trying to
use with an air hammer. Only shit your taking off and replacing lol. He was most likely joking.

Out of curiosity where did you source the flywheel? I've been looking at them and I can't find any North American resellers.

Most likely goes in just like the stock bearing on the 2.7t and 1.8t, rubber mallet or can use a piece of board to pound it in. Many of the other aftermarket flywheels use a sealed bearing that tend to be held in place with a clip.

If it was sold in us, it would be $700 not $450 shipped directly from EU...

I don't see why that would happen, the shop would already be buying it at a wholesale price and would still be paying the same for shipping from the EU to the states. So only thing that would then make the cost go up is the cost of shipping it from the reseller/distributor in the states to the customer. I don't see that adding up to a $250 markup. lol

It looks like you didn't read Mike's post completely.

Wholesale price doesn't equal the cost.

I have been self employed since 1988 so I would have to disagree. I have imported plenty of things including stuff from the UK so I know exactly how things work. lol

The mark up would basically just be used to cover the shipping cost to the states from the UK which people here are already paying when buying it from TTV directly, customer here then pay for the shipping from the reseller here in the states to their door step which should then be the difference in cost from buying it directly from TTV. A reseller/dealer doesn't buy it at full list price, that is not what being an actual business is about.

Ok, explain to me then why CM, southbend, other options in US for a billet steel FW are $700+ and I can get, in my opinion better item since it is truly one piece FW unlike others that still have a screw on starter ring at least, but this stuff shipped from UK is so much less. Last time I was in EU, it is not China and to make stuff over there it actually costs money, most of times more than in US, no kids turning lathes there!

The irony is that if you order TTV today, you will have it in your hands literally in two days (they ship with Fedex express 2-day included in price!), while other US options you'll have to wait for a while if you choose ground or pay extra 100$ (due to weight) to have it shipped with faster option but who knows if they have these in stock anyway.

And....if you talk to Ben at TTV and want it heavier/ligther, different pins, different step up, he will do it for you. If I remember right it was 40 pounds extra for any alterations you want to basic model and they will turn it for you within two days. Now that's a service.

Because most of all those shops have their flywheels machined right here in the states, most of them right at Aascc in Southern California. The CM flywheel for the 2.7t and 1.8t both have the ring gear machined into the flywheel itself instead of attaching one after the fact. Clutch Masters has their flywheels made in bulk so they tend to have them in stock ready to go. Prices are effected by material costs and labor cost to have them machined but I am sure you already know that. And lastly we all know someone can sell it for cheaper if they are willing to make a smaller profit and some places are just cheaper to make a product.

Did someone say something bad about TTV? Because I am not sure what you'r mad about.

Speak to Ben over there. As Julex stated he's a great guy
to deal with. He even offered to make a urs4/6 flywheel to
accept the amd b7 rs4 pressure plate at no extra charge.
