To all ssac twin 1 and 2 owners

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am considering getting one of these as a catback. So I will be running stock downpipes and midpipes with cats. I am wondering if someone can chime in an explain the differences. How much quieter is the twin 2 over the 1? How's the sound inside the car with the twin 1? Any drone with either? I know with stock downpipes and midpipes either exhaust will be quieter than with aftermarket DP's and no cats, which most videos on YouTube show either exhaust paired with aftermarket downpipes. I'm just asking for help. I want an exhaust that is loud ISH but not too loud, doesn't drone, and something to where I can still hold a conversation inside the car easily. The girlfriend hates loud exhaust noises inside the car lol.

I will post a video for reference tomorrow of my current exhaust. I took the rear muffler out and replaced the center res with a straight through 12" tube muffler.

see if what you are looking for is in here:

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...-Clips-Post-Up!

if the gf is going to bitch about noise and you are one to care about said bitching then get the dual muffler setup of the Twin2, that way if you dump your stock downpipes later you wont have to buy twice

neither should drone too bad, the early twin1's only had the rear muffler, and those droned but i think they only offer the single in the mid muffler form now

If you're running stock downpipes with cats then Twin one isn't that loud.

I can't find any videos of one with stock DP's. But that's what I assumed was it wouldn't be that loud compared to the videos.

See I like that sound. But when I get my exhaust I'll have cats and stock DP's. So I feel it would take a twin 1 to get to that point

Downpipes first then. Stock exhaust sounds pretty good with catless downpipes.

The NVH from my poly rear diff mount is louder than my catless twin2 at cruising speeds, but it sounds amazing at WOT. Hope that helps lol

From the twin 2 videos I've watched with catless downpipes they sound awesome. But I'm afraid it will be too quiet with stock downpipes and cats.

What happens when you add downpipes though? You then become that guy in the neighborhood.

i don't see myself getting downpipes anytime in the near future. With my states emissions and stuff I'd rather avoid the hassle. Ultimately I want to do some mods to my current car. Drive it for a while. Get familiar with the cars and when the time comes get another b5 but 6 speed and either laser red, imola, or nogaro (this silver car is boring and I love these 3 colors)

Well after the price ssac told me for a catback, I would have ordered straight from them. There price was cheaper, and for a brand new system.

then order it and install it already. Buy the dual, if its not loud enough for you, then remove the rear muffler and replace that section with straight pipe. Its easier to have a dual inlet/outlet muffler removed and replaced with straight pipe than the other way around

I have a twin 2 with DPs, which I know is a little different than your setup. For me, it really is the perfect exhaust. Nice and loud when you open it up above 3k rpm, but around town nothing more than a bit of a growl going from gear to gear. I do not have cats, but I did leave both mufflers in tact on the twin 2. Obviously it would be quieter with your stock DPs, but I'd rather have my Audi be a tad quieter than I wanted rather than a tad louder.

Your description is what I'm looking for. Good around town but screams when I open it up. I'm just afraid a twin 2 with cats, pre cats, and stock size downpipes will be way too quiet. I'm going to get a video today of my exhaust I'm currently running as a reference from where I'm coming from

this is actually my old setup where I was running SRM dps that taper to 2.5 then it hit a "Y" to full 3.5 to one single 1ft borla. Sounded great but a lil loud and too much rasp for my taste.

Since then I added 2 1ft vibrant resonators where the factory cats are supposed to be and it sound amazing with great tone and a reasonable overall DB level under 85mph.. Ill try to make a video soon
