I've heard good things about the B8 JHM, but haven't read much about the other two. The ECS piece looks nice but not many reviews since it's pretty new, I've also heard the Eurocode is great too. I've personally had the JHM in my B6 S4 and thought it was amazing, really smooth and solid. I didn't have the full linkage package and read it makes a big difference and offers even more stability. Based on that, I'll probably lean towards the JHM for my S5.

Our shifter is the best on the market. 4 adjustment settings for throw, 75mm of height adjustment, Nylatron shift plates for butter smooth shifting, as well as a service free Spherical 440c Stainless steel, self-lubricating, precision ground, heat treated, PTFE lined shifter bearing. Not to mention it's 100% made in the U.S.A.

2nd that. Having used others, the ECS SS is top notch. Great design, workmanship and very solid feel. The adjustability, from four different throws and height adjustment, made it the best choice for me. I love it.

I'm retracting my support for the ECS. Based on the failure of my ECS two-piece rotors (purchased in December , 2013) I fear my short shifter is a ticking time bomb. Is it made in China too? ECS does not stand behind their in house designed products, so I'm looking to get at JHM or Masterworks just to have piece of mind.

The ECS short shift, was great despite being assembled incorrectly, and having a bolt snap (not their fault, but another part sourced in China?). I'm done with ECS. Stick with those who stand behind their parts.

I think this question might be difficult to answer... like asking "what is the best chocolate?"

What are you looking to achieve with your short-shifter?

I currently have one installed, but honestly... not so sure it has met my goals of improving my shifting speed/experience.

I've had both JHM and Meisterwerk. I think both are great, although Meisterwerk was a little bit trickier to install and align. JHM doesn't have as much adjustment options, but I still enjoyed it. If my first S5 wasn't totaled, I would still be using the JHM.

We have been in the shifter game for years, and completely changed the market when we introduced our shifter to the B5 platform in 2006. Our shifter has been proven for years platform after platform. Best price, proven performance, and a lifetime warranty should anything ever happen to it.

Re-tread on the forum with a new to me 2012 S5 coupe 4.2L 6spd (previous Audi was a S4 Cabriolet, 4.2L auto). I am contemplating a short shifter. Any advice? From the above it seems there are generally three options. I am leaning toward JHM from reading above.

Also, I don’t mind the feel of the stock knob. Any advice on whether it’s worth replacing that or not? If so what knob? Thanks. - Bill

I have the JHM short throw shifter and their solid shifter linkage. I highly recommend both, some of my favorite mods I've done. I've had them on for around 20,000 miles and had no issues with them.

I have the JHM also. Installs from inside the cabin. Taking off the console is a pain and I did trash the bracket that holds the stock knob on other than that no problems no regrets.

Thanks for all the great input. I appreciate it. It sounds like the JHM works great. Did individuals keep their stock shift knob? If not, what knob did you use? Thanks.

Stock knob works great. However, we also have a weighted knob that really enhances the shifting experience. Clicky

Installed the JHM shifter today. Installation video was great; spot on. The $12 installation tool is really worth it. Really enhanced the shift feel. Not quite my old S2000 but much better than stock. Great job! Thank you.

Two and a half years with JHM's shirt throw and solid linkage.

Still love it every single time I drive the car. I literally can't imagine going back to stock now.
