Lightbulb (Twin Turbo) A4 B7 2.0T Project Idea

I was wondering if a twin turbo set up would ever be possible on a 4 cylinder. Would it work if I made two exhaust manifolds one for every 2 cylinders then had two separate mounts for both turbos? Anybody have any ideas or suggestions? Im open for anything right now. This is NOT going to be two huge turbos, but it is going to be 2 K04's. I just wanted to do something different, and still have it functionable. Also about this set-up, how would I would I avoid the huge turbo threshold(spool time) because I'm not really worried about lag. Thanks.

Why not just replace your existing turbo with a better $$ one like a garrett GT series- quicker spool yet larger compressor and be done. If you divide your exhaust gas by 2, your turbos will spool slower anyway.

if your going the custom fab route, instead of twin turbos think more of a compound turbo set up. small turbo feeds the giant to spool it quicker. 2 k04's would spool horribly

VW has been selling twin turbo setups for 4 cylinder diesel engines for years. It started out on their transporter vans, but the technology is expanding. They aren't cheap, either. The wholesale price for a new twin turbo unit is over 800 Euros.

Using 2 very small turbos each driven the 2 exhaust ports would work. A setup like this would be complicated, but the two smaller turbos would spool up faster than a single unit. This is what BMW does with the 335i inline six, with 3 exhaust ports per turbo. Twin scroll turbos would be best. The only justification for a setup like this would be to minimize spool up lag. If you are not concerned with turbo lag, then a single unit is better.

Personally I'd like to see full boost at idle.

A few guys did compound set ups on 4g63 engines where you would see a benefit. As stated above you would be better of using larger frame divided turbine housing unit instead of 2 identical smaller units.
