2009 Audi A4 low oil light has come on after fresh oil change. Please help!

    Hello all,

I have a 2009 Audi A4 with 69,000 miles. It is very good with oil consumption and does not burn much oil (1 quart every 3,000 miles). I just did a fresh oil change a week ago and when I filled it up right to spec and then drove it, the add oil light came on (add no more than 1 quart of oil) is what I believe it says. I thought maybe I didn't fill it right so I re-drained it, weighed it out, then re-filled it. I know the right amount of oil is in there but the darn light won't shut off. I was told by some local mechanics to just drive it and it should turn off by it self. I have to drive it 1500 miles tomorrow no matter what so hopefully I can get some direction on how to fix this asap. Thanks in advance for your time!

I put 5 quarts in and it was on immediately when I drove the car after the oil change. I've driven 250 miles and it is still on.

With the ignition ON and the engine OFF, try opening and closing the hood again. If you still have the light your oil level sensor may be bad.

Just curious what you mean by again as I never did that in the first place. What exactly does that do? Also how intrusive is it to change the sensor and where is it located?

again as in you opened the hood already when you did the oil change. opening and closing the hood resets the oil level reading, you'll notice after opening the hood if you check the oil level in the MMI car settings, it says cannot read at this time. after opening the hood you have to wait like close to a day or some driving for it to read it and display the level again.

but im not sure if it'll make a difference as you already did that when you refilled anyway, but wouldn't hurt to try one more time. otherwise if it's the sensor i'm guessing it's probably in the oil pan itself?

It is more than likely the sensor, cause if you put in 5 qts then you should be good.

If you're burning 1 quart every 3,000 miles you should probably take your car in for the oil consumption test. After they did the pistons/rings fix for my 2009, it burned no oil over a 10,000 mile oil change interval.

But as they mentioned above, there could be a separate issue with the sensor if you saw it immediately after adding 5 quarts.

Had this problem and this was the solution. Agree with other posters as well. You are burning too much oil.
