    Brake Fluid Recommendation?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

Which brake fluid should I use for my stock 1.8T b5? There are so many choices online but I just want to use something that can give great pedal feel and can take abuse from heavy braking since I live in a densely populated area with a lot of traffic. I am replacing the rear calipers and going to do a flush so I am going to need 2 liters of it. Thank you.

I'd go with any synthetic DOT4 compatible fluid. I usually use Valvoline. I used to use ATE super blue and super gold, alternating between them so I could tell when I had flushed enough. Super blue is hard to come by now. Most retailers stopped selling it since it is no longer legally distributed in the US. Super gold is the same fluid.

I was reading about it. I believe ECS still sells the blue, on other forums they say the blue is not good for seals on the 2000 & newer Audi's is this true?

Can Motul RBF600 last for 2-3 years? Its a racing brake fluid so I'm not sure how long it can stay in the system for...

Pentosin Super DOT4 is good stuff. Unless you're taking the car on track days, I wouldn't waste my money on racing brake fluid.

The boiling points are more than sufficient for daily driving, even in "heavy traffic"

    From Pentosin's Data Sheet:

    Boiling Point ≥265°C/≥509°F
    Wet Boiling Point ≥165°C/≥329°F

Compare that to the boiling points of RBF600:

    Dry boiling point 312 °C / 594 °F
    Wet boiling point 205 °C / 401 °F

I was reading about that one on ECS. Looks like it will best suited for my needs..

Here are the specs for the Valvoline Synthetic.

    Dry Boiling Point, °F (°C) min 446 (230)
    Wet Boiling Point, °F (°C) min 311 (155)

It's a good fluid and has good local availability.
Another good locally available fluid is Prestone Synthetic

Minimum Dry Boiling Point 510°F (266°C).
Minimum Wet Boiling Point 311°F (155°C).

If you plan on ordering fluid, go with the Pentosin.

For a daily, there is no reason to buy fancy brake fluid. I usually use Valvoline synthetic. It can be found locally and reasonably cheap. The biggest thing about brake fluid is to only use fluid from a sealed container. The fluid is hygroscopic and readily absorbs water. I live in a particularly damp climate and like to flush my brakes annually.

Yes, I was a bit confused about OPs question as stock fluid is beyond sufficient for driving in traffic.
