NJ Inspection Sticker Question(s) - Need help

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey everyone,

Since I am now in NJ I need to get my car inspected.
Just got back from the local MVC station but they would not inspect the car since my Windshield is tinted.

I was told to cut out a piece for the inspection sticker and come back, so my question is (2 questions):

What inspection sticker will I get, the white smaller one, or the colored bigger one? and what's the difference between the two?
What is the size of the sticker which I will be getting from them? So I can cut out the exact amount and not cut too much or too little?

Please help a guy out :)

What year is your car? I think if it's less than 4 years you will still get the white one. Otherwise you will get one of the colored ones for an inspection 2 years from now. They're not big, approximately 2"x 2"

    Thanks :)
Well its a 2014 S4, so I guess I will be getting a white one.
Does someone have the exact dimensions so I can cut out a window in the tint?

As far as I know the white inspection stickers are dealer only and placed on brand new cars ... if you go to an inspection place you get a colored one.

Colored. The colors changes by the year for reinspection. Makes it easier for police or anyone else to see from afar if you're passed inspection.

Its also atleast 2.5" square, if not 3"

but i've seen the white inspection stickers on peoples cars too....
I had the car registered in FL before, but now moved down to NJ, so its a 2014 model so not sure how it would work. I already have it registered in NJ but just need the inspection sticker now.

Can someone please measure the exact size of the inspection sticker for me, if possible.

That would be great lol but its the NJ MVC station, not just a regular inspection station / gas station lol
I went yesterday and they denied to even see me since I do not have a cut out for the inspection sticker.

You won't get white stickers after its been inspected already. Especially because its an out of state car in Jersey.

The month which is in the center of the colored sticker is the only white piece of the sticker.

Honestly you're lucky they didn't tell you to fishbowl the entire car before coming back.

Yeah lol if that would be the case, i'd go to a spot to get it inspected and just pay about 50 bux more and thats it, but I was told since its a 2014, which was purchased in nj, but registered in another state and now brought back to nj, I can maybe get the white sticker since its a new car and has never been inspected before (fl doesnt require inspection on new cars)

Yea man I get atleast a ticket a year for my tints. I just chalk it up to "tint tax" hah. But if anything grab a ruler and walk up to any car in the lot. I'd go outside and measure but I don't have a ruler at work. Its actually a rectangle as well, sorry for a saying its a square.

Where in Jersey are you located? May be less of a hassle to go to the shop...

shop seems to be the route im looking at at this point lol i know of a place which can hook me up no matter the car situation for an extra fee, but still gotta get there. Im around the cliffside park area myself.
Its either i take the tint from the windshield off and get it reapplied for about 60 bux, or cut out a piece for the sticker, or just go to a shop and have give me the sticker and ill attach it myself at home, but still have to cut out a piece lol so loose loose loose, so all depends on price, which seems to be to just take of the tint all together for the front windshield, but thats a PITA all in itself

    freakin blows

Yea man I feel you. I totally understand your predicament. I bought my car off the lot with tint. And then found out that everyone will do anything they can to make you pay again. I just deal with tickets and have my buddy do my inspections at his shop.

But yea man NJ creates many lose lose lose situations.

Go to a third party shop to get your car inspected. I run a tinted windshield in NJ. My inspection sticker on my daily is just put up against the tint with small strips of tape and on my Audi I keep it in the glovebox. Don't cut out a portion of the tint for the inspection sticker. Will look so bad.

What about when you get pulled over? Dont they bust your balls for not having your inspection sticker on display?

I put it up on the window for verification. But technically it is a $150 fine to not have NJ inspection sticker not displayed... from what I was told.

Not advising to NOT run one... just saying you can laminate the inspection sticker and tape it up against the tinted windshield in the appropriate spot.

Agreed, but you said you do that in your daily, which is one thing, but you said the audi you have it tucked away in the glove box...so my question is, what happens when you get pulled over in the audi? lol

I don't drive silly to get pulled over. I just put it up on the dash by the windshield for verification.

Cops in NJ usually pull anyone over just for tints, without even driving silly, from what I have noticed.

See but you bought it in 2014 and you inspected it in 2014, so that makes me wonder..... i got mine in 2014, in nj, but registered it out of state, but now moved back to nj.
Do you happen to have the exact measurement of the white sticker?
