How rare are Black Opts A4's?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have been looking for a Silver, Black, Gray or maybe Red Audi A4 with Black Opts (blade wheels) AND in a manual. The 6-speed is a killer, but I really want to have a manual since that is all I ever drive and I just prefer it. I search coast to coast and at the moment there are none at all. I use cars.com, auto trader.com and sometimes carmax, but nothing. Audi's website is lousy for searching. Are there other sites that are good to look?

It took me about 3 months to find mine. But since you're in the Northeast, it should be easier to find.

When I purchased my A4 (White, black optics, 6-speed) they told me it was the only one on the eastern seaboard and the salesman said it was the first one he had seen with a manual gearbox. So I would say, fairly rare. I was going to order from audi, but this one had popped up a few days into the search, 300+ miles away. Ordering would have been easy though if you wanna go that route, my dealer only required a $500 deposit which went towards the down payment upon arrival ( up to 120 days, but closer to 90 ).

Wish I could have found mine with the TI package...but the combination of options, 6MT, and price made mine a must have when I found it.

I have a buddy who will be out of a lease soon on his 2014 A4. Phantom black P+; chestnut brown; 6MT; black ops; B&O; MMI; s-line...but he lives in NYC and has a 20k per year lease...so it will be seasoned when he's done. They're out there, but patience is key. Good luck!

Cars & Auto Trader are what I used, also pull up individual audi dealer sites.

The 6 speed will make the search difficult, I only was searching for one for maybe 4-5 days before finding mine. On a whim 3 days later I put a payment on the car to hold it. I didn't think they were hard to find until I started searching a bigger radius for one in white. When I couldn't find another manual sport package black optics in the country for sale at the time I decided I better take the grey one.

If all you want is black optics and find one without it and its a color you want w/ other options you can always add black optics on your own. You can buy the stuff and add it for relatively cheap (excluding the black headliner) considering the price bump a black optics car cost. The grille ~ 240$ and replica rotor wheels for ~ 1k or if you must have OEM ~ 2k.

Agh... I guess I was hoping for a little more encouragement, but it will be a tough find. If I find one, I will post my purchase. I was thinking about an S4, but I think that would get me in trouble. The A4 is enough. Guess no one has seen one, or they would shoot me a link. lol Not looking good.

I'm in VA and I had to ship mine up from Georgia in order to get my Gray S-Line Plus/Black Optics with a 6-speed.

I see a ton of them around Virginia, but I'm not entirely sure they are all 6-speeds.

Always buy the S4 if you can afford it.

Here is about the exact car I want, but it is in CA and an S4, which I would consider, but I think the price is pretty high, not to mention it is widely far away. I would love to find an A4 in this color and those seats. I have sat in those seats and loved the fact that they aren't slippery. If this car was $42,000 and certified, I may see about buying it. I would even consider driving it from CA.

The A4 I would like in reality would be as follows:
    2013-2015
    Black Opts
Black, Gray, Dark Blue or Silver
    Manual Transmission
The interior shown in the link. I can't remember what it is called? Begins with an A if memory serves.
    Sports Package
    S-Line
    B&O sound system

I test drove a 2012 Prestige that had all the options I wanted, but the oil light came on and I started reading about that issue. I am sticking to the '13 and newer models.

When I got my car I was told that less than 10% of the cars imported to the US are manuals. I can only imagine how many of those are Black Optics.

Good luck with your search, it might take time but you'll find it. If your still looking when the Tesla 3 comes out, I might have one for sale.

Well, in 2016 there will be no more manual transmissions from Audi. All autos. This next car will be my last Audi. Not sure if VW will continue? Maybe a Golf R would work for me, but I probably won't be all that happy. Guess I am getting old and my generation of manual drivers are dying off. People want cup holders, iPod stuff and color screens for Nav or whatever these days. I am a fossil, but trying to hang on. If I had a pile of money, I would buy two S4's like the one I showed in the link and drive one until it gets about 130K miles and then break out the next one. That would put me at about 70 years old after the second one, so maybe by then I will want an auto. Even in Europe the manual is toast. Not sure if any makers will keep them alive. Probably some maker, since there may always be old farts like me around.

That's really really SAD news! It was a royal PITA to try and find a manual 328 convertible and then that car turned out to be a pile of Sh*T. I went back to Audi and had a choice of three manuals in my state with the options I wanted. The car has been nice but Audi is not the same as I remember with their TD1 bullshit. However, I might have to keep the Audi longer than I thought just for my boys. A stick shift is one of the best anti theft / anti texting devices I know of these days.

Smartly said. I am a bit sick over it. The choices are slim and I suspect as people are more into texting, cup holders and nav screens instead of driving these days. Like I said, I am just an old timer now, so I will just find a manual. Seems even a Golf R doesn't come in manual, but the GTI still does. Sadly, I feel this will be a step down. 2016 is it, so I guess I could wait. The manuals that year would be the most valuable. Just think, people will be lining up and asking, what is that stick thingy in between the two seats? Shouldn't there be a cup holder there?

It's very similar to the phone icon on cell phones. Some day some kid will look at the call button and say what is this weird curvy symbol supposed to be?

Here is one a lot closer. Wish it had the interior I like, but it sure is close to exactly what I want. Might have to think about it a bit. Wonder if the prices will drop a bit after the B9 is launched? I am not in a rush. I really still enjoy my A4 B6, which served me very well to say the least. It still drives like new to be honest. Obviously much slower, but still a very nice car.

That looks like Nogaro Blue, which is an Audi Exclusive color. I think one or two S4s that color exist in the U.S., but AE colors are a several thousand dollar option. You can get them on any model.

    Here's one in the U.S.:

Nice. I don't think I will even bother looking for that color. lol Guess I could just say screw it and buy and order a new one, but I usually go for a year or two old to lessen the hit.

There's actually one for sale, new, in California in Nogaro with the 6MT. No black optics package though.

Thanks, but Black Opts is a must. Not a fan of all that bling around windows and such, plus I really like the blade type wheels.

Personally, I'm not to keen on buying "Used European" cars from dealers/private sellers due to not knowing if they've been worked on and/or not having the CPO. This one don't give you info from Carmax and I would look into the dealer first, then if you want purchase the Carmax yourself (I dont SUGGEST that though).

The PA S4 would be more of a choice. The Blue one in Valencia, CA = TOO EXPENSIVE

Figured I'd bring this thread back to life. I've owned a B6 Ultra sport 6spd quattro for ten years and am finally thinking to upgrade. I found a 2012 S line 6spd Black Optics that I currently have on hold waiting for a test drive at Carmax. Before I found this car I talked to every Audi dealer in my area on S4s and the service was absolute garbage. Couldn't get people to return calls, emails-and when they did it was utter incompetence. I have bought cars from Carmax before and it's really a simple experience. The burden is 100% on the buyer to do their research and vet the cars, so I highly recommend buying from them if you know the car you want and are willing to do some research. The car I am looking at was a one owner car, 26k mileage, Black Pearl, S Line, Sport, Black Optics, MMI, etc. I couldn't find a car like this at Audi CPO locally to save my life.

I really wanted to upgrade to an S4 but the cost is still too high on the 2012s. This is the next best thing and has half the mileage of the S4s I could barely afford at best. So checking this car out soon and might sell my Ultra sport, which is rare in its own right. 04, Brilliant Red on Black. 6spd 1.8T Quattro...never modded. I definitely notice that if you watch closely enough, you can find amazing cars at Carmax not available at dealers easily. And often times these cars are gems, one owner cars that you just don't see elsewhere. There are also deceptive cars, but you have to vet those cars carefully. Call a dealer and see if you can have them pull the service records, spot things that say modded like missing badges, aftermarket wheels, grills, etc. If you are an enthusiast you can spot this stuff easier than other people without too much effort.

Only downside is no CPO warranty extension, so you have to look at a different extended warranty or buy their MaxCare warranty (which I've heard decent things about). Also, my current car was CPO and while it was worth it to me then, sort of, not sure CPO carries that same weight with me these days. Audi denied many fixes for me back in the day and I'll never forget that. I have a great shop for maintenance and if the MaxCare covers anything big at an Audi dealer with an acceptable deductible, then not much risk overall. On my other Mercedes from Carmax, they let me know that often times they will actually take your car to the dealer for service under their extended warranty themselves. So if you have an issue and it's warranty, Carmax will take the car over to the brand for work. It just takes longer and often times you can request it as well. That said, you just never know. Really have to Research research research when buying any used car, even at dealers ;).

TL;DR on the articles: Carmax warranty is impressively solid.

I remember reading the first article a while back but not the second. Thanks for sharing!

Still haven't checked out the car in person. They trucked it to the store and it's sitting on the lot with a hold tag on it. It's raining buckets here today so waiting until tomorrow to test drive it.

Ended up passing on this car. Like new and everything checked out but I think waiting to afford an S4 is the better option for me.
