Started blacking out all the chrome and chrome like parts on my S5 today. What do you think?

Very nice! Especially with the contrast on your body color... stealthy.

very nice. I am however a big fan of the chrome audi brand on the grill.

I agree with Namvar. Looks great except the chrome rings on the grill actually look ok.

Nice work...is it "dip" and did you do it while parts were still on car? Came out real clean, wanting to darken my mirrors/rings and like the way yours came out.

^^^ What he said. Looks very clean. Curious how you're blacking it out. Great attention to detail on the S5 logo.

I think it looks great. Though I do agree with the others about the front rings. Maybe consider doing them in a dark silver instead of chrome though. It'd give them some contrast without being too flashy.

I love the black out but do agree, audi badge on front grille chrome against black best but do like the rear emblem black out contrast against body color

Looks cheap IMO. Many people with A5's and A4's do this.. Don't blend in! Never understood the blacking out phase; makes cars look duller and just like every other car I see blacked out.

Thanks for all the comments! I felt with the body color a full chrome delete would look good. I did spray everything except the mirrors (easy to remove) on the car. I kinda agree about the rings in the front but I wanted to see it all blacked out first. It's plastidip so I can peel and redo if I change my mind. The S5 logo was a thought/experiment mid process, I wasn't sure if the lettering was "deep" enough to allow the dip to break but it actually worked quite well. I wanted a little pop in the back badging since I was gonna leave the front badge alone. I removed and dipped the foglight bezels today so now they're blacked out as well. I'll most likely do the chrome window trim next week. I'm still planning out the process... It's complicated with the rubber touching so much of the trim.

Maybe you guys would prefer the high gloss black optics Audi is offering now... not dull at all... but I'm a bit biased in this regard, lol

I just saw jeff's comment about spraying them gray for a subtle contrast. I like that idea but I'm concerned about bringing grays in since the car is gray. I do have some gunmetal lying around though so maybe I'll give it a try.

I would really only do this with a light or dark gray car. I think blacked out with that body color makes it look more aggressive. I wouldn't do it with a silver or a white based care nor black. I first looked at black optic parts but I think they're too expensive and you'd have to pull your entire front bumper to remove the grill not to mention the nigtmare of removing the pop rivets holding the window trim in place...

I can understand blacking out the chrome pieces but the Audi badge needs to be chrome. I also like blacking out the model but having only the red part of the logo not be blacked out. The trim around it and the S and 5 blacked out. Did it on my TT RS and it took time to just remove the plasti dip from the red part of the badge. Looked great.

Enjoy the car the way you like it and piss on everybody else.

Gently pull the bottom of the mirror glass out and upwards. It feels like it's breaking but it's not. Once it's poped off disconnect the heating element wires and the monochromatic wires. With the mirror glass out there are two screws on both sides of the mirror motor on the top. Remove those screws (mine was missing them). You'll see they secure white plastic tabs from the mirror cover to the base. Once those are out pull firmly and stead upward on the cover working from the door side outward. It'll only pull up a little ways and you'll need to disconnect the side assist and blinker lights. You may also need to release a black tab holding the blinker (attached to the mirror cover) to the base. I then had to move the mirror glass motor/mount to various angles to "walk" the cover off. If this doesn't make sense I can get you a pdf of the procedure from Elsawin later this week...

Thanks for info, PDF would be great as I don't want to mess anything up. What did you use to pull off mirror? I'm guessing fingers don't fit and you used some sort of tool?

I'll try to get the pdf printed and posted. Yes, angled the mirrors up and wedged my chubby fingers under the glass and pulled out and upward.

I plasti dipped my fog light rings and the paint would keep chipping. So I bought the black ones from ECS tuning and they hold up much better. NOt sure if you did that or not

I dipped them. I didn't know ECS sold black ones, I'm new to the S5 world. Haha. I'll keep those in mind though if it starts to chip. I usually don't have any problems with plastidip chipping. The stuff is pretty strong and because it's pretty much rubber it absorbs impacts pretty well. How many coats did you use? I don't spray less than 5.

Love it! Since you already blacked out a lot of it, I HIGHLY suggest just doing the TAG Motorsports Black Front and rear S5 badges in Satin Black! That would complete the look 100%. Click the images for more info!

So they would be visible. Painting them body color might be an improvement, but I think it looks pretty awesome as-is.
