    PDR for hail damage

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So, yesterday's hail damage hit my car. There are about small 20 dents I can count, on the roof, hood, boot, even one or two on the doors and exterior C pillar. I haven't had a chance to really check in detail yet. I plan to wash the car and see whats the extent of the damage tomorrow.
I never had experienced dent repair so I have no idea how much it would cost.
Would you recommend go with insurance or just pay it out of pocket. My deductible is $500.
Any recommendation of the shops that I can at least get a quote before I call the insurance?

Having no garage is a huge disadvantage. Apartment living woes.

Is your deductible $500 for comprehensive as well, or just collision? Regardless, it wouldn't hurt to get a quote from a PDR place, but you're almost certainly going to be better off going through insurance IMO. That sounds like quite a bit of damage.

Yup, $500 on comprehensive as well. I was an idiot for selecting that option. I will choose wisely next time though. Hopefully American Family Insurance works nicely with me. In 15 years of driving I have never had to file any claims yet. So, I have no idea how it even works.
The damage doesnt look bad until you get as close as a feet and look at it at a certain angle, but I wont be able to sleep just knowing there are little dimples on the car. All the cars in my street are damaged. Mine was least damaged looks like but who knows.
Thanks for the advice on getting a quote first.
Anyone local have any recommendations for a shop?

A few years back some asshat jumped on the hood of my car, dented my fender my and my hood, Colorado Auto Body on colfax wanted like $250 to fix it, that was the only time I've dealt with PDR though.

I was at work during that hailstorm, Saw the hail coming down as pea sized and I sprinted down the stairs to move my car into the parking structure, it got bad, that hail was huge.

I dropped off my b7 at the fabricator....I have my fingers crossed that he didn't leave it outside....super nervous because if its a good chunk of damage I'm sure it might be totaled.

I sure hope its not totaled. I searched a lot for that color and put a good amount of time on research and retrofit of the options I wanted. Not as much you have though. Hopefully your car was inside the shop too man.
So, was Colorado Auto body shop good?

    That blows man.
Hopefully the insurance company can work with you on that.
I've got a friend that does PDR for a living and he's mobile.
He could give you an estimate just so that you'd have an idea what kind of money you're looking at...
Let me know and I will PM you his name and contact info.
I think he lives NW Denver...

My local body shop had the hook up on the best PDR guy around. Had to fight the insurance to use him as they wanted to use their own guy. The car looked brand new when he was done, very impressed. It was here in Maryland. Make sure you get the right guy, some can really screw things up if not properly trained. He will find more dents then you can, I guarantee.

Thanks. I will give him and my insurance a call tomorrow to see what can be done. I surely want to get it done proper or have it totaled. :)

He does work out of his brother shop (Precision Auto Works) They also work on most Avalanche players vehicles, check their gallery to see Scott Hanna's 1958 ford pick-up truck (flat black) and the R8 that also belongs to the Avs goalie, I can't remember his name, sorry I'm not much of a hockey fan.
The Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG I think belongs to Matt Duchene...

^ mine looks something similar. Hood got most of it and I can see some dents on the pillars and doors. Where are you taking it to get it fixed or quoted? My insurance agent is being a dick and not returning my calls. Once this gets settled, I am going "bye bye" american family insurance and back to state farm. At least the old lady there was quick to respond.

Avus RS4, I called the person you referred to yesterday. Very nice guy. He advised me to check with the insurance first and then get a quote because insurance is going to low ball the heck out anyway. And seems like he also knew that many cars got damaged in my neighborhood that day. He said insurance categorizes these events as hail catastrophes. lol.

I'm glad he was able to give you some ideas how to start getting your car done.
Yeah, insurance companies don't like losing money. Don't let them low-ball you.

Left side, roof and hood took all the damage. My insurance is sending someone out today to look at it so not sure what is going on as yet but they seem to want to get it resolved quickly. Will hold judgement till I actually hear what they have to say after seeing the car. Best of luck on yours.

Will do. I really want to see the insurance quote first. Thanks man.
My agent confirmed that I do not have rental car coverage. I denied the coverage before because I had two cars. Now I sold the BMW I forgot to add it in my insurance. Now I have to pay for rental car while the car is in the shop. Fuck, what a PITA.

Oh, Did you get to do the memory seat swap before you sold the sedan?
So, when are getting JHM tune?

total damages from field estimate guy came in at $9850. I was a bit shocked. They said they would get back to whether its totaled or not but I would guess it probably is.

this included new hood and doors for the driver side, all the rest would be PDR.

EDIT: just got confirmed total but I will be buying it back.

Have an independent agent and she switched everything to Safeco for us a few years back. So far I have no complaints but I have not received any final figures as yet either.

Just got an estimate of $2400 from the insurance. The estimator said no need to replace any panels. Just pdr should do. I am sure a shop's quote will be higher but I am relieved that it's not totaled.
Ali, hope you get it sorted out soon.

Now to call the body shops recommended here to get an estimate.

I would definitely check with Goose's PDR guy, and also Matt @ M&M Auto (who might refer you to another PDR guy as well... don't know). Look at it this way.... say you get 5... 10... maybe even 15 estimates... if you get your car back 100%, isn't that worth the effort?

    Keep us updated you slacker!!

    Keep us updated you slacker!!
Work is a bit too much right now. No time to do anything.
Finally, went to Matrix Autobody yesterday and to M&M Auto reconditioning today to see Matt. Nice guy. He was there in his R8. That thing is a beauty.

So, Matt gave me a date of 20th July to get started on repair and mentioned it might be a couple of weeks to get it fixed. Apparently he had the exact same color (ocean blue B7) before and he was showing me the pictures. Matrix Autobody is yet to give me any dates. I might probably go with Matt if Matrix is not able to get me any dates soon.
Still have to get it checked by Rick (Avus RS4's reference).
Matrix is very near to me and possible will finish the car quicker, on the other hand Matt knows this color and his audis and he is trying to arrange a loaner during the time of repair. So, lets see. Its just a waiting game now.
Well I think at least I can finish up curb rash repair on the RS4 reps I got from pwest a couple of weeks ago.

I hate Matt. He was "only" there in his Porsche when I dropped off my A4...

I'm glad your car won't be getting totaled out! Post up some pics of the refinished wheels when you get time!

How is that car not done yet? it was just a 2.7 swap right? I feel like when I met you like a year ago you had expectations of finishing it in a few weeks and it was mostly done, and its still not done? Those guys are taking their sweet time.

It was basically sitting for a long time with no work being done on it due to time constraints. It was then moved to Jordans where it got nailed by the hail. It has been running since late last year but buttoning up the last few little things is all I have been waiting on. Will be the last engine swap I ever try to get done

Seems a bit like they didn't even put effort into it. People do these 2.7t swaps in a couple of weekends, no reason why a shop needs 2 years to do it. If they would have had it done you could have avoided the hail damage. Sorry to hear man.

Just updating as the PDR guy I used (Tim from Tim's PDR) did such a great job its hard to tell the car ever had damage. He is also very reasonable and makes house calls for smaller jobs of clearing panels at very reasonable prices. Nice to have a car that is not riddled with dents.

    ^lools good.
I completely forgot to update this thread. I got hail damage on my car fixed at m&m auto a while ago. Matt and his guys did a good job. They forgot to connect something on my sunroof and was rattling. Took it back and they fixed it.
Happy with the result and free loaner as well. It was a honda civic but can't complain, it was free.
