    I need some polishing help

    Hi everyone,

I cant seem to get a decent paint correction on my 2009 A4.

It looks like I got most of the swirls out but whats left is a bunch of small scratches everywhere. Could this be RIDS?
They dont look very deep. What are the chances that I put them in while polishing?

This is what I have done so far:

    -Washed and clayed
-Used Griots Garage Polisher and 5" backing plate and used a orange Hexlogic pad with Chemical Guys V36
-Followed that up with a white Hexlogic pad with Chemical Guys V38

Also, I can't seem to get a good polish trail following the pad when im polishing. Its like theres nothing on the car once I make a pass. I primed the pad by making an X and spreading it then added 4 drops of product. Then from then on using 4-5 pea size drops. Even did half an X on the pad with the product and still the same...

Does anyone else have this problem with the V series?

Let me tell you from personal experience that I've had the same issues with the CG V36 and the V38.
Needless to say I returned the product, luckily I didn't use too much of it that they were able to give me full credit.
I'm not sure if I didn't work it in right, but it was leaving tons of RIDS or not so deep swirls, so I feel vindicated knowing that I have not been the only one with this same issue.

Anyway, It looks like you're doing it right my suggestion is that you change polish.
I would recommend Menzerna SIP, and another good product of the shelf is Meguiars Ultimate Compound that would work well to chase after the V series left over RIDS

The Meguiars M105 and the M205 are both excellent as well and easily available at your locar Advance Auto Parts or any major autoparts store.

Thanks for the reply. I guess it's not the way I was doing it. Just kind of pissed I spent 70 bucks on this chemical guys stuff and it's not working.

I even loaded up the pad with polish just to experiment and still no polishing trail something has to be wrong though...

I wasn't very impressed with it.
I don't even know why I've ordered that stuff in the first place.
What' I've been using for years has worked great for me, yet...I decided to give something else a try and ended up blowing up in my face.

Is there anyway you could return that stuff and either get a refund or exchange them for something else?
I hardly ever buy anything from CG as far as compound and polish are concerned.
I buy a lot of other stuff from them, but paint correction stuff I don't. I usually stick with my Menzerna and Meguiars.

I don't think so, I ended getting the chemical guys products from Amazon.ca not directly through them. I'm in Canada so it's tough for me to get most stuff without paying ridiculous shipping rates. I wish I had a advance auto parts here and just get that m105 and 205.

I've tried a few cleaners such as Diablo wheel gel and they seemed alright. I guess there V series polish and compound lineup are just not good. Interesting to see if anyone here has had success with the stuff.

I was hoping to just do one pass with the 36 and then a couple with the 38 cause I don't want to take much clear coat off but now I'm going to have to go over it again with something else.

Amazon is usually pretty good about handling issues like this one.
You may want to give it a shot and see what happens

I'm thinking of giving the ultimate compound a shot since it is the quickest product that I can get my hands on.

How similar is the cut compared to M105?

Do you think it's worth giving the ultimate polish a shot as well? Or is the V38 better

I like a lot of Chemical Guys stuff; Soaps, blacklight, V7, Jetseal 109 waxes... Compound, polishes, and Jetseal Matte on the other hand, not so much.... There are much better options out there (V38 is actually good though). Menzerna FG400 followed by V38 (or Sonax Perfect Finish 4/6 is even better) is what I would do in this case. You shouldn't have that issue with V38 of losing it's "polishing trail". In my experience it has really good working times which is nice since it needs to be worked in for a while to fully remove some imperfections.

    The M105 is far superior.

The Meguiar's Ultimate Compund doesn't have the cutting power of the M105 but it's very decent, it will correct medium swirl marks and it can also bring up a nice shine.
    It cleans up real well...

I had the exact same issue with V32-38. Terrible products or I don't know how to use them. I ordered menzerna SF4000 and FG400 and they are AMAZING products. Also DAT technology as the V line but they work so well so I doubt it was my technique with those products...
