Bump stops on Bilstein Sport shocks

Getting Bilstein sport shocks and H&R oe springs put in tomorrow.

Do I need to trim the factory bump stops? Take them out completely? Install them as if they were on factory shocks?

    Thanks in advance!

Ok, I just went through this. And ended up doing the install twice. First of you will need to get rid of the front stops. The B8 front shocks have internal stops. And depending on which stock suspension you have you will need to cut down the rear stops. If it's non sport cut off 1.2". If it's sport a sport suspension you'll have to figure out the difference between the non sport, and cut accordingly. If you don't, you'll ride on the rear stops. It will be very stiff and bumpy. I called Bilstein before the install, and they told me to delete the fronts and to leave the rears. After 2 weeks the rear still sat 1" higher than the front. I jacked up the rear. Pulled down the bump stop and slowly lowered my car. Sure enough the stop pushe back into the strut mount. I contacted Bilstein and told them about my dilemma........they responded with "ok, you should cut down the rear bump stops". Once I did that the car was transformed. It rides like stock as far as comfort, handles much better. Good luck! And pm me if you have any questions.

Also the Eibach pro lit is matched to the Bilstein shocks. You may want to consider it if you're looking to improve ride quality. The H&R linear springs tend to feel very harsh, and bumpy.

When mine were installed the OE bumpstops were reused and not modified. Ride seems perfect to me.

I should note that I have Eibach springs but I don't think the H&R OEs would require any modification of the stops.

I'm going h&r because they are a bit higher than the eibach.

Jack up the rear, and pull the stops down. Then lower your car slowly. If the stop goes back into the bracket you're riding on them. Once you cut them down the ride becomes completely different. If you have the sport stops you may get away with it.

I'm also debating doing Bilstein and H&R OE, but this B12 kit (Bilstein w/ Eibach springs) has me wondering.
I have seen a few instances of the B12 kit causing the back to be lower than the front though, and reverse rake isn't a good look IMO. The advertised drop for the Eibach springs for the S4 listed on Tirerack is .8F and .6R, but I know from other threads it's more like 1.4F and 1.2R.

@Ek9max, you have an S4, 4ringnut installed on an A4 non s-line if I can recall correctly.
As for the bump stops, that's another question. Lots of people say it's not required, could this be a difference in S4 vs A4 bump stops?

@UnstableOS, any pics of your setup?

Yes, the sport bump stops may not be cut down. But I have no idea how much shorter they actually are compared to the non sport. As far as the reverse rake. My car has normal rake. It's about 1/4" to 3/8" higher in the rear depending on the amount of gas in the tank.

Here's the bump stop lengths that are suppose to work. The sport bump stops should be this length(which the S4s should have or at least were an updated part at some point). I originally found this info on the Stasis Suspension Install PDF, but good luck finding it now.

I recently put GMG(Eibach springs) and Bilstein Sport struts/shocks in. Didn't have to cut the bump stops as they were the sizes listed below. Car rides and feels great.

    2 3/4" front
    4 3/8" rear

    Hope this helps.

All S4's have a sport suspension. There for you have sport bump stops.

My installer trimmed the front and rear about 1/3".

Rides awesome. MUCH MUCH MUCH more comfortable that's the h&r coilovers. And they were bad.

I'm sure the coils may handle better as they are stiffer. But I want this thing to be comfortable.

Quick pick on the way home that my wife snapped.

Nice! Damn, that looks slammed. Maybe it is because of your 20s.

Compared to stock (if you can remember that far back), how are the bilsteins and OEs? No more float? Body roll reduced?

    congrats!

I might not be the best to offer an opinion on this. I bought a low mileage 2010. Put h&r coilovers on after 2 weeks. Rode on them for two weeks and now this.

H&r was a bit tougher than stock. These are much more compliant that h&r coilovers. So I guess they feel like stock.....
