Exclamation Help with wheels 18 inch!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

I'm from the B6 forum but I recently just got a 8.5 (black on black) and will be picking it up this saturday.

I want to get some wheels for it but I must reuse the oem all seasons 18 inch.

Before any of you post the wheel thread link, I've gone through half of it and 95% of the setups there are 19 inch.

I'm leaning towards VMR V710 18x8.5 et35 for now but I couldn't find any pictures of them being in a B8/8.5
    !
If any of you can just post a pic of your 18 inch wheels and specs , that would be great!

    TIA!

Main reason why 95% of the setups there are 19" is because 18s look small on these cars. I'd suggest selling the tires and putting the money into bigger wheels and tires

    Help with wheels 18 inch!

18s don't necessarily look too small, you just need to pick a set where the spokes go all the way to the edge. Keeping the tires shined helps too.
Here's mine with OE size tires.

Buy another set of wheels & tires, when you give the car back you can sell them. A 1500$ set of wheels & tires you can easily make ~800-1000$ back as long as you don't bend them all.

cant afford both 19 inch wheels + tires and winters for a while, got tuition to pay, and its early for winters but its the time you get the deals.

    keep em coming! thanks bermudakid!

If you decide to go OEM wheels, try finding a set of the sport pack wheels. Throw a 10mm spacer in the front, and 15mm spacer in the rear.

Just FYI I'm not running spacers, the drop did push them out a bit though.

which i like them but the offset sucks...

so im gunna be getting winters..so since the offset of the winters will be et35, i figured i might as well get nice 18s for summer and use oem for winter

You can have OEM and still get useful ets. I run 8,5x18 et29 A5 rims, the 245 40 tire pokes slightly in front and sits flush in the rear.

My winters are 8,5x18 et33 Allroad with 245 45 tires, plenty of space.

There are some OEM sports for sale in the classifieds right now. Not sure of price. I have the sport package and 15/20mm spacers and they look great. 19's do look better, but not enough for me to spend the money to upgrade. Spacing them out helped the look quite a bit and only cost me $90 with lugs.

and yeah after further pricing with tire stores... I think i'll just use spacers on my stock rims to get the look, I know spacers are gunna be fine these days but I still want to avoid them, how many of you use spacers for like years and years? any wheel bearing issue ( im going 15 max ) ?

I know! I love them, and yeah I'll get spacers I think... what are you guys running to make it look good? i dont wanna sit flush because when I lower it, there will be issues.

I have had the spacers on for about two months now. At first, I had some vibration at 75mph from the passenger side rear wheel. Took everything back off and cleaned the hub and wheel again and re-installed. I have no vibrations now at any speed. I can go get some pics and post them.

You'll be fine with 15/20. The royal flush kit is slightly less. I think I may actually pull the trigger on it. Here's the problem. Once you poke those wheels out on a non sport suspension it will look weird. A bit 4 by 4....ish. IMO. The car is a lease, and depending on which route you're taking lowering the car may not be worth it. If you go with springs it's around $250 for parts. And any where from $ 600-1500 for labor. Labor cost all depends on your location. I couldn't find a shop that would do it under $1000. But I've seen guys say they paid as little as $400. Then you're looking at another $100+ for an alignment. And you will have to do it all over again in 3 years before you return the car. Not sure if it's worth it.

I was in the same boat, I wanted 18's so i could reuse my stock tires and I regretted it. I had Forgestar F14's(one of my favorite wheels) and unless you are running coilovers or bags I'd recommend holding off on it. I absolutely hated the way it looked even on the Eibach Prokit. Check craigslist or even the classifieds idk what your budget is but Im sure if you're patient you'll find something.

You're probably gonna be replacing the OEM tires by the time your lease is up anyway. Just wait and save a little bit more for a full replacement set.

yeah im lowering, and my mech charges me like 350 ish for installing and alignment, idk how you get 600-1500 but if thats what your shop quotes....get the hell out lol

I'm thinking going 10 or 15 all around, i heard it puts a lot of strain on the bearings once you go over 15... isnt the royal flush 17.5mm?

$350 is really cheap. I don't even see how they can make money. It took me and my buddy 8 hours to do my suspension. With air tools. It's a huge pain in the ass. Yeah I think 17.5 sounds right.

8 hours on a b8 is a bit ridiculous... my b6 took half a day to have those pinch bolt drilled out...and then another half to install and alignment (all the bolts were seized) , left the car there for 2 full days... $580

I think you may be comparing apples to oranges. 8 hours was be goin at a steady pace. The rear springs were a bit of a pain. I managed to get them out without dropping the subframe. I really don't see how anyone can do it faster as a DIY. Unless you've done it several times. I still don't see it.

I did the control arms too which added an hour. The pinch bolt was a pain to get out. One of the was seized.

No dont worry wasnt making fun of you for going at that rate.. 8 hours is decent id say, but man most of the shops here charge less than 500 for coilover change which im surprised that you get charged 600-1000 :s springs around the same price

dont worry lol, im getting coilovers!
The OEM sport wheels are the same width. Reason for a wider spacer in the rear is because the wheel well is deeper.

I went that route because it was often mentioned as the best flush fit for the sport package. If you are worried about 20mm spacers being too wide on their own, you can go with the bolt on kind for added security.
