No one doubts that the f8x M platform shits on the b8 platform. Thats well established. OP was specifically comparing with the e9x gen. You didn't have to come in here dick swinging about your new m3 and call the s4 a "moldy kumquat" lol.

After giving it some more thought, I'm more accepting of the never-ending comparison between S4 vs M3 (funny how 335i hardly mentioned). OP was comparing performance cars in $30K price point.

Just Drive - Besides S4 and M3, any others you'd consider? My previous non-Audi was a G37x (AWD) sedan. Although I hated the 7AT transmission problems that plagued Nissan/Infiniti (similar to B8.5 steering issues), I thought it was an otherwise good luxury sports sedan, much more affordable, too.

I cross shopped both cars, the E90 M3 4 door and the B8 S4. I liked the M3, handling was nice, engine sounds great, rwd immediacy. However, there are a few large strikes against it, the cars are built ala carte, so finding a used one with the exact grouping of options you want can be challenging.

I live up at altitude and the NA motor on the M3 was seriously down on power compared to the FI S4 motor, which very much negatively impacted the M3's performance. I also go skiing and wanted a car I could take up the hill to Vail with the family. Even with a set of blizzaks on the M3, I wouldn't consider taking that car up the hill.

So as much as I wanted to get the M3, for me, where I live, the S4 was the clear choice. Now that I've gone stage 2 on the S4, the performance gap between it and the E90 is huge, the S4 would just run away from the M3...

Pretty wide. Just wish it retracted. Same issue I have with MB. Kind of looks like they mounted a tablet to the dash.

HUD is cool. Everyone digs his Volk TE37s with fluorescent stickers lol.

They are not apples to oranges as much as people will want you to believe. I cross shopped them.

The question is not which is better, but which one is better for you and your specific wants and needs.

For me, the S4 was a better choice, but the M3 is an amazing car. One of my best friends, long time Audi/VW owner, has a 2011 M3 and it's a gorgeous and powerful machine.

For me at least I would have bought a f80 if I had the money. They get similar gas mileage have similar sizes. I feel like the f80 is basically superior in every way for me since i don't need AWD.

After getting out of the Army and going through a divorce which ruined my credit 4 years ago I was almost panhandling.

Now I'm just paying crazy $$ to finance. Once my credit gets better I still probably won't be an M3. Just have my own preferences. Wonder how the M2 will turn out though.

M6 is nice but I probably rather have an S7 or RS7.

The E90 was the car I planned to buy prior to trying C63 and S4. Not impressed at all by the E90. The new one is incredible, though... If they weren't so pricey, I'd have one as a DD!

We don't claim it to be faster. We know how to read stats. My FRS was faster than it with his fiancé driving at Mid American Motorplex lol. All but the straightaways of course.
